Select Profile 5 just continues to exceed expectations! With over 125 applications chasing only a “select” 40 places the panel for judging has had an exceptionally difficult time. One round of reviews has already commenced and the final casting takes place TODAY! Good luck to everyone who has applied. Naturally there are going to be some disappointed designers but remember that you can apply for the two day event in September – Profile 6.

It’s wonderful news to hear that Zandra Rhodes will be attending the select Profile 5 Gala performance at 8pm on March 9th at Vinopolis.  Jane Shepherdson Brand Director for Topshop will be announcing the winner of the new category “New Designer Award” and presenting the £5,000 cheque.

Mr Eds (PR agents for Profile 5 event) are working their magic with the press and it was great to see Profile mentioned in this weeks Drapers Record (page 11). In addition Mr Eds are networking the event with consumer and trade magazines plus we are on the look out for new fashion faces for the catwalk models. More on this next week!

FashionCapital is also working with Zandra Rhodes in another capacity. This week the LFF held a highly productive meeting with Michelle Arnusch-Marketing and Press of the Fashion Textiles Museum.

The FTM are currently exhibiting Zandra Rhodes: A lifelong love affair with textiles,  which commenced on the 2nd February 2005 and finishes on 25th June 2005.  FashionCapital are working in unison with FTM promoting the event and a sneaky preview of the event is highlighted here.

We are also delighted to announce that we have now built up a Canadian contact- Rachel Sympatico who will be reporting on fashion trends from Toronto along with Cheryl Nowarks fantastic reports from the Big Apple – New York. Cheryl also works for the highly respected Abbey Donegal NY who report on the trends. Donegal have very kindly offered Fashion Capital users a review of future trends. We are currently working on this new development and just agreeing terms – should be live for Profile 5 March 9th!

The Urban Street Wear project is now almost concluded and what an amazing achievement for the talented 17 teenagers. Two garments are currently being manufactured by Gloria Fashions and these two garments will be showcased at Profile 5. Daisy James – project manager has been a real trouper working all the hours God sends to ensure that the group have worked to critical path lead times. Daisy reported “I am so proud of the 17 teenagers who have designed two outstanding garments from concept sketches to final production. It has been a demanding project but exceptionally worthwhile and extremely rewarding for everyone concerned. Many thanks to Jenny and Vanessa for all night time meetings they have put in to make the project work”

What wonderful press we received from the successful consumer fashion show at Bluewater. The event really captured the imagination of the public and sales increased by almost 50% over the two day period!

Finally,,,,,the cats out the bag….it’s true I am running the London marathon this year! I don’t know what possessed me to enter but it’s too late now! I am running for Whizz Kidz, the charity for disabled children. For those that know me (and those that don’t!) I am most definitely not a runner! I have put in some training but I swear my legs are two inches shorter! All advice, support and general words of encouragement are most gratefully received.

That’s it for this weeks update. Until next time.

Regards
