  Dear all,

Knowledge Connect

Even though the trains were down on the Victoria and Central Lines yesterday the virtue of persistence pulled off for the designers forced to find alternative routes to learn more about the Knowledge Connect programme and see the outstanding facilities at Kingston College on offer. The meeting was a resounding success with FashionCapital members eager to propose their innovative ideas to incorporate into new collections to utilise the technician's expertise and machinery at the College courtesy of £10,000 grants available from Knowledge Connect facilitated by Angle plc.

"Really fantastic facilities at Kingston College, it's a great opportunity to be involved with in this one of kind initiative, haven't seen the range of facilities on offer all in one college. Recommend this amazing opportunity to all other designers wishing to develop their label"

Samantha Mark, Designer

"As the fashion industry becomes a wasteland of support for new and small designers, today's event which was an intro to Knowledge Connect was really welcome; it could provide a lot of direct, bespoke interface with skilled practitioners, to designers who need the support. The facilities at Kingston are truly impressive and I hope there is a way that the program being offered through Angle plc can dovetail into designers' realities and expectations."

Farah Dan, Designer

The 1950's Look – Recreating the Fashions of the Fifties

The latest book to find itself in the FC head office is Mike Brown's ‘The 1950's Look'; all about recreating the fashions of the fifties. A delightful flick through book, its imagery and memorabilia deconstructs the key elements of iconic 50's fashions. From Audrey Hepburn chic to high school prom queen it explains the origins of many items of clothing now taken for granted on today's high street.

Every fashionista with her finger on the pulse will know that the fifties are experiencing another revival and this charming book is a timely guide to the trends and signature styles of the era – and how to translate them in 2009.

 Retails news

The retail price index shows inflation has slowed to -0.4 in March, for the first time in 50 years falling below zero showing signs of prices decreasing as the gap between supply and demand widens. The last negative inflation measure occurred in 1960 as unemployment rose and disposable income diminished as seen in current times and expected to worsen over the course of 2009 and into 2010. However the downturn in momentum may not be as sever as initially expected as sterling has been decreasing in value from September 2007. Although prices are driving down causing problems with pensions and benefits, the cost of living will therefore be reduced which could potentially start another much needed boom for consumers to reignite the UK economy. However as the pound sterling falls, now is an even better time to break into international markets.
