Dear all,

In the News…

Our hearts go out to those that have suffered in the Rana Plaza building tragedy near Dhaka over this past week. The manufacturing industry has had a long and tainted past of unethical behaviour which highlights a need for positive change. Retailers have a choice where they get their garments produced and life should never be shadowed by profit. We are pleased to be a part of the FashionCapital Factory based right here in the UK where ethical standards and a good working environment is maintained. Read our latest article on this very issue ‘Ethical Manufacturing – Right Here in the UK.’

Elsewhere on FashionCapital we talk to the CEO of StyleCard and discover how established stores such as Traffic People are sharing their floor space with external pop-up retail concepts.

Well done MD Jenny Holloway!

Jenny got completely out of her comfort zone last weekend and jumped out of an aircraft donning a parachute of course – raising almost £1,500 for Leukaemia Research.

The Princes Trust for the Pre-Apprenticeship Programme

Today at The Factory we had 13 hopeful apprentices tour the premises led by Jenny Holloway. The tour was based on processes of production and how an apprenticeship can help achieve a key position in fashion for the future.

Our 13 visitors were a mix of males & females all with passion for fashion and textiles. The NEET’s were brought in by The Princes Trust for the Pre-Apprenticeship programme and received some insight on what it would involve. They also had a talk from our own in-house designer Beth.

Here are a couple of responses from our visitors and what they took in from the experience:

Sarah: “To stay true to my ambition and not give up! Grab opportunities and run with them, make the most of what I can get and push for more. Getting into fashion doesn’t seem so impossible without a degree.”

Lucia: “I learnt that the fashion industry isn’t just about being a designer or a model. There is more to it and I would love to start at the bottom and build myself up!”
