Latvia Welcomes a New Designer Store/Showroom

1_jan_14_8_rooms_latviaOn December 17th, a brand new Latvian design store-showroom called 8 Rooms entered the local fashion market. Within its 150 m2 large shopping area there were many beloved Latvian fashion brands represented, including BUG, PAIYA, RIPA, Be Carousell, QooQoo, Cinnamons atelier, MARE&ROLS, One Wolf, Red Salt, Līva Šteina, Nina, Alexandra Westfal and Anita Sondore, as well as a bag label, Claudine London, from the UK.

Alongside promoting Latvian fashion brands, 8 Rooms has opened the concept to involve various UK-based fashion brands, as well as labels from Estonia and Dubai.

Baiba More, the initiator of Latvian Fashion Brands Association and owner of Latvian fashion design online store www.madamekuku.com comments:

“The whole 8 Rooms team really did a great job working on this project both day and night, although I have to admit that the last weeks before the opening were really tense. Today, however, I can finally enjoy the great feeling of relief and satisfaction and take a moment to appreciate how far we have come. Our work schedule at Latvian Fashion Brands Association has been pretty loaded lately, and we also have some great ideas planned for the future, including the cooperation with various UK-based fashion brands with Fashion Enter.”

The Fashion Enter Apprentice of the Year Award Now Open

june_5_apprentice_awardCalling all apprentices, have you been performing high? Are you on time every day and well on track to finishing your portfolio?

Fashion Enter is now looking for their apprentice of the year!

As you may know, earlier this year, Zoe Barrow won the award for ‘going above and beyond the call of duty, giving full commitment to the company at all times.’

Zoe commented, “Winning the award was great, not only was it a huge surprise but it was also a lovely way of seeing that my work within the company was recognised and appreciated. I’ve also had the pleasure of having the shiny, personally engraved trophy take its place on my desk. Good luck to this year’s candidates!”

Youth Fashion Competition 15-19 Wandsworth

Call out to future fashion stars, Wandsworth’s young fashion hopefuls have been invited to hone their talent by taking part in the Youth Fashion Wandsworth project.

Young people aged 15-19 should apply now for a chance to be chosen for the scheme. Successful applicants will be taken on a fashion journey, with the chance to develop their skills in the design and creation of garments.

The project is the brainchild of the mayor of Wandsworth, Angela Graham, who has devoted her mayoral year to creating opportunities for the borough’s young people to succeed.

Angela is working with the council’s arts and youth teams and with Fashion Enter Ltd, which supports the garment industry as a centre for skills development. Fashion Enter staff will be helping the young people get a real understanding of what working in the fashion industry is all about, and will teach them about design, pattern-cutting, garment construction and sewing.

The project will be launched in January, and the final exhibition will be promoted as part of the Wandsworth Arts Festival in May.

If you are interested in taking part, contact Justine Kenyon on (020) 8871 7037 or email jkenyon@wandsworth.gov.uk
