NEWSLETTER June 19th 2013

Dear all,

It has been a fantastic week for menswear with the London Collections: Men S/S 2014 kicking off on Father’s Day. FashionCapital was in attendance and The Hospital Club, HQ of the event, was buzzing with activity. It was fantastic to see such a diverse and creative range of menswear from top-notch tailoring to sportswear influences to avant-garde show-stoppers. Coverage can be found on the ‘Industry’ ‘News’ section of FashionCapital along with a current menswear trend review from Ashleigh Kane.

The River Island Apprentices are…news-river-island-logo

River Island has now selected their 3 apprentices and we are delighted to announce that Danielle Orwell, Freya Hopkins and Beverly Owusu will be joining the River Island team as their first ever apprentices.

They will be based in the head office and will work across production, design and quality control for the 24 month programme.

Huge congratulations to Freya, Danielle and Beverley.

I feel so lucky to have been able to gain the apprenticeship at River Island, for such a large company that are doing so well on the high street, it’s amazing to be given a chance of working at their head office without having a degree. I am really looking forward to starting my career with River Island. Fashion Enter made this an enjoyable and stress free process. I knew I always had someone I could ask with any queries I had, they were a support for me all along the way! Thanks for all your help!’ Freya

‘I feel that the Apprenticeship at River Island is a fantastic opportunity, which I am truly grateful. Fashion Enter has helped me through this whole process, one of the things I feel that has helped me the most on is preparing for the interview. As any questions I asked were answered and within good time. I have enjoyed the interviews and can not wait to start.’ Danielle

Some sound advice from Nick Gould – Company/Commercial Lawyer

A bit of common sense guidance is always useful…

As a company/commercial lawyer I spend some of my time working with start–ups and smaller companies in the fashion industry. Sometimes I give talks on things that owners of these sorts of companies might want to consider as they try and grow. Some of what I talk about are legal issues, but many are just practical or common sense ones.

I keep reading about the fact that many of the people who run these companies may be great at what they do, “creative wise” but need a lot of guidance “business wise.”

Well, here is a short and simple comment which might be of use although I would have thought it is stating the obvious—but maybe the obvious things are the ones which need re-stating!   I have noticed over the last few months that in this, more than any other sector of business in which I am involved , too many people don’t reply to e mails, or telephone messages and at the worst, don’t turn up to meetings.

Whether I am acting as a lawyer or just giving general business guidance may I say that if there are several people looking for advice, the first ones to be crossed off my list are those who behave as just mentioned.

It is, as you will all have probably noticed, a tough enough world out there already. Do yourselves a favour – deal properly with the easy things.

Boutique Pick of the Week june_19_house_of_hackney_vest

While our Factory in North London produces runs of 300+ for the likes of John Lewis, ASOS and M&S our Fashion Studio located at Knowledge Dock, Campus of UEL, Docklands, produces smaller runs for designers such as the House of Hackney. The House of Hackney design duo, Javvy M Royle & Frieda Gormley, create homewares that are the antithesis to beige, subverting traditional products with playful and irreverent prints to appeal to a new generation. Some of these prints have been re-worked into the brands clothing range and the Fashion Studio have played a part in the design, quality and production of these pieces.

Hence our Boutique Pick this week is a Hackney Empire Silk vest top featuring a unique whimsical print from the label. 100% silk and 100% British, available to buy from http://www.houseofhackney.com £125-

Until next time, have a great week,

All the team at Fashion Capital x
