NEWSLETTER 18 SEPTEMBER 2013 Dear all,
And how was it for you? I am of course referring to London Fashion Week, the five day catwalk fest that was full-to-the-brim of fresh ideas for spring / summer 2014. The general consensus amongst the fashion pack was that London had grown-up this season, lots of clean, fuss-free silhouettes with a modern yet commercial appeal.

The FashionCapital team were there taking note and you can read all the show reviews on our London Fashion Week section, please click here to view. Many thanks to the reporters – Ashleigh Kane, Sannita Hancock, Zoe Barrow, Abbie Godbold and street style photographer Jiaying Li and to all the show PR’s – what a hectic schedule it has been!

Also on FashionCapital this Week…
The Guardian News & Media has just announced their brand new biannual fashion magazine, ‘The Fashion’, a unique collaboration between the style teams at both the Guardian and The Observer. We take a look at Pringle of Scotland’s new Mayfair store & showroom and we talk ‘Made in Britain’ manufacturing facts & figures along with the increased demand for ‘Made in Britain’ goods from consumers far and wide.
MP David Lammy at the Stitching Academy
Following the success of the recent ASOS/FashionCapital Stitching Academy launch which was attended by the Minister of Employment, Mark Hoban, and a range of national press we were delighted that MP for Tottenham (London Borough of Haringey), David Lammy, along with the Mayor of Haringey came to review our launch initiative last Friday. Here are a few pictures with David Lammy and the Mayor being shown around The Factory / Stitching Academy along with meeting key people from the team including Shana Tekila, one of the first students that has completed the Level 1 Stitching Academy course and gone on to further her skills in production.

My Fashion Profile: Wendy Coley
Following a BA (Hons) Degree in Printed Textiles, I freelanced as a textile printer, working in East London for a variety of clients, including museums, advertising agencies, fashion designers and our in-house label.
I really enjoy fashion, art, textiles and teaching. I completed a PGCE in Post Compulsory Education at the University of East London. I’ve taught within Hackney, Lewisham, Haringey and more recently Camden. I progressed to an advanced practitioner, training as a coach, mentoring PGCE students, and running CPD workshops for lecturers.
I really enjoy working in creative lecturing teams, refining teaching by reflecting and sharing our ideas and practice. Its great seeing students and staff develop in confidence, skills and ability.
In my spare time I enjoy sketching and visiting exhibitions. I volunteer once a month as a youth worker and will be running a screen printing course in the evening. I’m learning Kung-Fu and I am also a busy Mum of three.

Boutique Pick of the Week
There is no denying designer fashion is an investment and buying high-end designer quality doesn’t come cheap! Thankfully the high street has many designer collaborations enabling us some relatively pain-free fashion indulgence. This statement oversize printed silk shirt can be thrown over jeans or worn as a dress with tights and is from the Maarten Van Der Horst collection for Topshop, retailing at £100- and 100% made in Britain too!
