Dear all,

We hope you are having a fabulous week and enjoying all this wonderful summer weather. As always we have plenty to tell you about…

The Stitching Academy Has Lift Off 10_july_stitching_academy_logo

First off, the UK’s first Stitching Academy is now open with its first batch of trainees. Launched collaboratively with ASOS at FashionCapital’s Factory in Haringey, North London, the Stitching Academy is a wide-reaching extension of the UK’s first ever National Apprenticeship in Fashion and Textiles Apparel scheme, through which:

•           120 young people will complete with a Level 1 qualification in “Stitching Skills” after a six-week internship, during which their daily expenses will be paid

•           At least forty young people will go onto employment, further education or additional apprenticeships

•           Skills gained will include: Sewing & Stitching, Machinery Operation, Inspecting & Measuring and Health & Safety, all trained at The Factory in Haringey, London

•           ASOS Foundation, a registered charity, will supply all technical equipment and machinery, matching contributions from Haringey Council for teaching costs

•           All activity will be supported by grant funding from the Department of Work & Pensions via Jobcentre Plus to drive British manufacturing by young people

Stitching Academy enquiries need to go to Shanice e-mail: shanice@fashion-enter.com

On FashionCapital This Week…fashion_targets_3

We take a look at the provisional schedule for September’s London Fashion Week, meanwhile employers take note; the government are proposing new plans to clamp down on the use of illegal migrants and will be enforcing penalty’s of up to 20,000. Ashleigh Kane, meanwhile, attends a Fashion Targets Breast Cancer event and H&M reveal a sneak peak of the Isabel Marant collaborative collection due to hit stores this November.

Highgate Wood School Visit

Yesterday Ankita Patel and Anna Falconer from ASOS along with our very own Jenny Holloway visited Highgate Wood School and talked to 79 students about the fashion and textiles apprenticeship programme, the pre-apprenticeship scheme and the Design Life Cycle. This was in association with Employer Ownership of Skills Pilot Programme with Huddersfield Centre of Excellence and is proving to be very effective for students looking at career options and the various roles available in the fashion industry.

Check Us Out in the Oxford Street Windows

Now in the windows of the John Lewis flagship store on Oxford Street are some rather gorgeous vintage inspired prom dresses to celebrate the coronation which our very own Fashion Studio over in East London produced with John Lewis. Here are a few images from the Hello magazine photo-shoot and some words from Iain Ewing, the Womenswear and Accessories Design Manager at John Lewis Partnership:

“Just to say a huge thank-you for all your hard work on the vintage prom dress project.

The dresses are in the window of Oxford Street for the next 2-weeks and they look amazing!

There is also a 4-page spread in this weeks Hello magazine, which looks fabulous and they looked absolutely stunning on the catwalk at Buckingham Palace yesterday too!

I know that Verity has been in touch with you about another couple of projects too, so can’t wait to start work on the next!

Thank-you again for everything.”

Buying British

We really do feel that we are on the cusp of a return to production and products that are ‘Made in Britain’ and it is always fantastic to see the designs we have manufactured come to life in the press and consumer market. This week (Tuesday 16th July) The Metro featured an article on ‘Buying British Needn’t Break Your Budget’ and there, bottom left, was a ‘House of Hackney’ dress that has been cut and sewn in our very own studio!

FashionCapital: Hanging it Together for the Fashion Industry

Testimonial from Francesca Garton-Adams, Fashion Enter Work Experience Placement

“I would like to say a huge thank you, to you and all the other wonderful people at Fashion Enter Ltd, for my work experience placement. I have had a great time and I know a lot more about the fashion industry and how it works behind the scenes.

I am really pleased that you thought my work was good enough to go onto your website and it is a great honour to have something published. It was great to have the chance to experience the real working world and have the chance to see many aspects of the fashion industry, from design to manufacture to journalism.

I have had loads of amazing opportunities and experiences and met lots of amazingly skilled people. I have lots to take away from my time here and hope that I can put my newly learned skills into action someday. Thank you again.”

Race For Life

Our crew of ladies from FashionCapital did us all proud last Sunday running 10k in the sweltering heat in London’s Hyde Park. Well done! There is still time to donate to their fundraising efforts and raise money for Breast Cancer Research
