Dear all,

Aquascutum Work Placements

The prestigious high end fashion brand; Aquascutum London have provided work placements for students on the Stitch in Time programme in the head office in Piccadilly for experience within both the buying and merchandising teams. This is an incredible opportunity for unemployed residents in Haringey with a serious interest in working in the fashion industry. The placements are 2 weeks and provide invaluable experience to enhance CV's whilst learning from leading industry experts with the potential opportunity of securing long term employment if the right candidate excels.

Brand Director Aquascutum and Group Supply Chain Director Carolyn Springett commented:

We are delighted to support the Stitch and Time programme for the unemployed residents of Haringey with the not for profit company Fashion Enter. We have 6 places open pre Christmas and we welcome each of the successful applicants to work with us at Aquascutum.’

If you are an unemployed resident of Haringey and are just as excited as we are about this incredible lead, please contact emily@fashioncapital.co.uk to ensure your place is reserved on the Stitch in Time programme this January.

Designer update

Anna Coleman from Instant Vintage is the latest designer to have joined FashionCapital. She has been lucky enough to gain support through the Women in Work programme and we think her designs are fantastic!

At last a genuine organisation that really knows the fashion industry and can help me to successfully grow my label! I have already been set up with the pop up shop, have a new ecommerce website ready to be activated, a mentoring session and spotted by Lana Postcard! This is just what designers need today.’

Enter the Dynamic age of Club meets Fashion!

Next year FashionCapital is proud to present a new way forward for our designers – working alongside Dynamic Models, fashion shows will be held at the top clubs in London on a monthly basis. Designers will have the chance to see their garments on quality models and gain valuable exposure to not just potential customers but also press and potentially Buyers, as well as select Celebrities, starting from end January 2010. This will provide an ideal opportunity for the designers involved to have professional images for their Press and Look Books for a fraction of the true cost, plus invite any potential customers and clients they may already have to enjoy an evening out at clubs such as the Embassy in Central London. A nominal cost will apply for the use of the models, hair, make-up, production and photographer, but will include a free image of their favourite model and outfit. For further details contact jenni@fashion-enter.com

Claire Hamer reporting on NICE sustainable fashion

Claire Hamer is the Sustainable Sourcing specialist on Fashion Capital and the founder of EI8HT having visited Copenhagen's NICE summit amongst several hundred other delegates to promote a new 10 year action plan promoting sustainable and ethical Nordic fashion. The event recognised the confusing nature of the true meaning of the term; “sustainability” in fashion from a consumer perspective hence the addressing of this topic. A Barney's representative from New York was in attendance having been promoting the “Green Holiday” campaign selling 22-carat gold necklaces as the perfect Christmas present for loved ones with the promise of planting 10 trees for the ultimate feel good gift for consumers to associate with this season.

City of London Academy – Islington Winter Show

Last evening, students at City of London Academy, Islington showcased their first fashion show within the Christmas production focusing around the legend of Michael Jackson. The talent present on stage was truly astonishing, ranging from dancers, singers, designers and models. Familiar face; Gabriel Nunes who had previously worked with Fashion Enter on a placement in the summer embarked on project managing the fashion show. The students work showed a clear theme of utilising the four elements having been inspired by high end designers; Vivienne Westwood and Jean Paul Gaultier. The entire production put on by the students was an unbelievable credit to the incredible school, expect to watch this space for the future talent of tomorrow.
