British Designers@FashionCapital Bath Boutique update

It has been a hectic first week at the Bath branch of British Designers@FashionCapital, Stef and I have been on the case with staffing and have met two great candidates from Bath Spa University. One of which, Katharyn, will be starting with us tomorrow. Feedback thus far has been great and from the London Fashion Week camp Jean-Pierre Braganza and Goat are gaining great interest and from the emerging designer’s room Eva Evanovich has been getting plenty of attention. Local resident and WWD journalist Lesley Field has been in twice while another customer commented that the boutique was a “slice of London in the heart of Bath.” The only negative, and often reported issue in the press, was related to sizing and customers suggesting that not enough larger sizes are available. This view has been sent on to the designers – I have to say it does seem strange that while the average woman in the UK is a size 14 – this size is classed as the biggest size in the designer arena. More on that later. New to the boutique we have MoodSwing Couture hand embellished bags (check out the image) and more one-off pieces from the London Fashion Week designers. More from gorgeous Bath next week.

South African delegation visit London

Next week a senior delegation from South Africa will visit London once again following on from the successful visit taken in July by officials from the DTI.

For the last few years Fashion Enter has been working closely with the Department of Arts & Culture in South Africa to commence trade with the country’s traditional beaders and crafters in a truly innovative and exciting competition. Entitled International Fashion Fusion, Haringey Council helped launch the project set to inspire and enthuse budding designers of Haringey as well as support and promote the talented crafters in South Africa culminating in a line of eco friendly garments being produced to be sold of leading etailer asos.com.

Next week Masana Chikeka, Deputy Director from the Department of Arts and Culture will visit London along side the Chief of Staff: Minister’s office, Acting Chief Director; Investing in Culture and the Chief Director: Sector Initiatives to continue the work on this groundbreaking initiative and review the UK’s fashion industry.

Design Quest

Fashion Enter is ready to launch an exciting new project with over 20 schools partnering with the enchanted Kensington Palace Exhibition. School children will be set the task of recreating garments closely relating to the theme of the exhibition visited on the first session of the programme. Fashion Enter have assisted the teachers at the schools involved with the practical and technical elements this initiative will provide the students.
