Dear all,

FashionCapital and BrandAlley Launch the ‘EBD’ Competition!

Following the huge success of the ‘LBD’ dress competition we are delighted to confirm the ultimate Evening Black Dress design competition where FashionCapital will be once again collaborating with the market leader in private designer sales BrandAlley. We are looking for ten UK designers to design the ultimate Evening Black Dress.

The EBD is a continuation of the highly successful LBD competition held in 2010 and in this year’s competition the ten EBD’s will be sold in an exclusive sale on Brandalley.co.uk in September 2011.

Here are just a few comments from last years LBD finalists:
Taking part in LBD project with BrandAlley was a phenomenal success and it had fantastic press coverage. For an emerging designer it is a great opportunity for brand exposure. We are thrilled with the results and would like to take part in the next project. Eva Evanovich
Having the opportunity to sell the Lace Noir dress on Brandy Alley really enhanced my confidence and was a vital learning experience. It was just what any new start-up label needs I am so happy to also have had a best in the competition was just a dream come true. I would like to also take the time say a massive thanks to Fashion Capital and BrandAlley for this amazing experience.’ Eunice Ansah
The LBD project was amazing, and to see my dress on sale worn by a beautiful model  was a great experience it helped my career a lot  and  helped build my confidence on my talent as well.   The fact that everything was provided, from a production unit to a great selling platform gave me an all-round view of the fashion industry  and this type of experience takes months for a starting designer to succeed. A big thank you, to the all team!’ Celia Fernandez
Good luck to all designers!

SAVE OUR SHOP – BRITISH DESIGNERS @ FASHIONCAPITAL BOUTIQUE BATH

British Designers@FashionCapital offers retail support to London Fashion Week designers alongside new talent. Since opening the Bath boutique in September the project has engaged with the local community, up-and-coming designers and students studying at Bath Spa University giving them essential insight into the tough fashion industry. The feedback from customers has been incredibly positive – they love the unique product offer, the designer discounts and the fact they are supporting UK based businesses. Not forgetting to add the landlord of Milsom Place, L&R Group and their continued support and enthusiasm for this unique retail concept.

FashionCapital operates on a not-for-profit basis and only takes a small commission from each sale to cover running and staffing costs; a large proportion of each sale goes directly to the designer. To operate at this level, as the company has in the South East, the outlet needs the backing of the local council and to be awarded discretionary rate relief. British Designers, 14 Milsom Place, Bath has been operating on the understanding that the council would not charge full commercial rates in light of the company’s not-for-profit status and that it engages with the community and local educational bodies.

However, after 10 months of waiting for a response Bath & North East Somerset council have concluded that British Designers must pay full commercial rates. We are currently appealing against this but if the council refuse to alter their decision we will be forced to close immediately and will no longer be able to support designers with a retail outlet in the South West. Please do not let this happen, Britain is already becoming a clone town country with the same high street chains wherever you go. Please support us click on the link and sign our petition.Much thanks the team at British Designers@FashionCapital, Bath

Apprenticeships

The apprenticeship program continues to expand as another 3 apprentices join and thus we would like to welcome into employment in the fashion industry. Companies in the printing side of the industry, production, design and warehousing have all expressed their interest in utilising a highly enthusiastic apprentice to join their team, paying testament to the true versatility of the course. If you are an employer seeking an extra pair of hands which will only cost you £100 per week for an 18month duration then contact emily@fashioncapital.co.ukwith the types of skills you are seeking that will enhance your organisation. Furthermore, if you have just finished your studies at school or college and wondering where to go next, you could become the next fashion and textiles apprenticeship on the only available program that is currently offered.
