Newsletter 11th June 2014
Dear all,
As reported by Fred Anderson this week the UK manufacturing sector which is around 10% of the whole economy saw welcome growth in May, actually one of its most significant in the last two decades.
Deputy Chief Economist at EEF Neil Prothero said, ‘The sector is firmly on track to expand for a 5th consecutive quarter, its strongest performance in four years’.
Jenny Holloway adds: “A three-year high for manufacturing! This is indeed music to my ears! After working in bulk garment manufacturing for the last five years at last the onshore revolution is really happening. Looking forward to the Made in Britain ‘Meet the Manufacturer’ event today and tomorrow. Hope to see you there. We will be speaking and also have a stand.”
Jenny will be speaking at ‘Meet the Manufacturer’ this afternoon with Sophie Glover from ASOS.com on ‘Why Made in Britain is here to stay.’
Meet the Manufacturer takes place at The Old Truman Brewery, Brick Lane, London E1 today and tomorrow.

Jenni Sutton, Fashion Enter Development Manager, is a part of the GSB Fashion Hub she says; “With the current workforce aging, it is time to up-skill the next generation. The perception of manufacturing is not sexy – we need to start attracting young school leavers to this industry so they can see it has a viable future and promising career prospects. We need more initiatives like our Level 1 Stitching Academy, which ASOS.com helped fund.”

Arianna Huffington Wears Michaela Jedinak
Michaela Jedinak’s custom-made dresses produced at Fashion Studio are doing exceptionally well. Newsreader Fiona Bruce is clearly a fan and now Arianna Huffington has joined her. Arianna spotted Michaela in her ‘Amelia’ dress at an exclusive talk and mentioned after that she was admiring Michaela’s dress throughout her presentation. Arianna was full of complements so Michaela took the plunge and asked if she would like a dress, which she of course replied ‘yes’. Knowing that this was such a great opportunity Michaela put in an order for one dress in two sizes (to make sure it would work) to be picked up on Wednesday at 9am. She then dropped it off at 10am and the rest is history.
Michaela comments:
“All this would not have been possible and happened without your (Fashion Enter’s Fashion Studio) amazing support, help and craftsmanship skills. I am still so ecstatic and so grateful to you all. THANK YOU FOR BEING SO AMAZING.”
Fashion Studio Update…
Want to know more about the various projects going on with the Fashion Studio, then here is the latest blog installment from apprentice Dominique…
‘This season at the Fashion Studio it’s all about the children, from swimwear to jackets to little girls dolls clothes! Yes, that’s right, dolls clothes! Kasia has left to have her baby, which means it’s all hands-on here at the studio. We are all working very hard as a team to meet our production deadlines. It’s all a bit stressful but in the end it’s always a pleasure to hear that our clients are happy.
Here at the studio we are going to produce 600 little garments 6 different styles and 100 of each. Each little garment needs to be cut one by one and then sewn to perfection, which is no problem for our super machinists! The styles consist of leggings, T-shirts, shorts and some darling little dresses. It takes me up to 3 hours to cut each individual piece, now you would’ve thought they would take less time considering the size but because of the size they are so fiddly and I have to be extra careful when cutting – imagine stitching them – EEEK!
We’ve also been doing some samples for a company named ‘Shapes of Things’. Each garment consists two shapes either a triangle, square, octagon and circle. The client thought it was a great way for children to learn their shapes and what better idea than to put them on clothes. They are absolutely great, everyone in our team has been working super hard to get these garments to perfection, I can’t wait until the client sees how amazing they’ve turned out.’

Best wishes and a safe journey to Anna Gall, Factory Admin Assistant and her daughter Laura, both are travelling to Hungary to visit family. Jenny Holloway was delighted to be asked to be Laura’s Godmother.

Boutique Pick of the Week
This week it’s all about the boys, what with Father’s Day this weekend and the S/S 15 installment of London Collections: Men. With this in mind we have picked out this Ally Capellino canvas despatch bag lined with soft cotton, padded pocket with a velcro secured tab to keep laptops or tablets snug. There’s plenty of space for papers up to A4, a pocket for phones and a secure zipped pocket for valuables. On the back, an easy to access zipped pocket for essentials. There is integrity to the Ally Capellino brand, with production and practicality just as high up on the list as aesthetics. British manufacturing and waxed cotton, Italian veg tanned leather and attention to detail make up the unique mix of style and quality that is Ally Capellino.
