Fashion Enter in Sublime Magazine

This week Fashion Enter made it into Sublime Magazine! The impressive double page spread featured Fashion Enter’s The Factory and discussed the importance of bringing manufacturing back to the UK as well as highlighting the significance of the Apprenticeship scheme.

Sublime started in March 2004 as a group of 30 media people gathered to discuss what a contemporary magazine should be all about.

In a year’s time, the group devoted to Sublime grew to 300 influential opinion formers around the world – making Sublime the first magazine movement with such wide collaboration and following before its launch.

Workshop 1. Thursday 16th June 2011.

Title: How Much Are You Really Making?

Topics:

1.       Introduction to Profit/Loss –How many garments do you have to sell before you start making money? How do you know if your prices are going to cover all your costs? Why wait until the end of the year to find out from your accountant just how successful you were this season? A simple Profit/Loss account is the starting point to answering these questions and helping you manage your business well.

2.       Recording your sales and purchases – Simple, practical, ways to record your income and expenditure that don’t take up a lot of time but do keep you in control.

3.       How to treat stock – How to value fabrics, trimmings and finished garments.

4.       VAT – Do you need to be VAT registered? Would it pay to be VAT registered?

5.        Cash Flow – How would your business be affected if one of your customers was late paying you?  Are you sure you will be able to pay for your garments when they are ready? This section will introduce a simple cash flow tool to help you plan ahead.

BD@FC – Bath

Greetings from the Georgian City. Here in Bath there has been music and performances galore as the Music Fest and Bath Fringe are well underway attracting visitors and locals alike.

Since the end of March British Designers & FashionCapital have been working with 2nd Year students from Bath Spa University on an external design module. Students could choose whether to design a capsule range for ASOS Black or Belles of London to sell at the Clothes Show. The project requested research of the labels and their competitors before using creative inspiration to produce a capsule range. The final crits took place at the Workshop just over a week ago and Jenny was highly impressed with the standard of work on show.

Jenny Holloway, director of FashionCapital, Kosa Ralevic, Workshop and Factory manager, and JoJo Iles, manager of the British Designers@FC Boutique in Bath have independently looked at the work and have unanimously agreed that Chloe Victoria Jones is the project winner. Congratulations Chloe, she will now have her project work on display on the FashionCapital stand at Graduate Fashion Week, her pieces will also be showcased at the Profile show for up and coming designers in Mayfair, London this September and her work will be shown to ASOS buyers and could possibly secure orders. Exciting news and we will keep you updated with the latest developments.

Also at the boutique in Bath we have had some new arrivals courtesy of Claudia Polo…fedora hats and vegetable ivory jewellery, sale samples from Hemyca, who incidentally won the award for brightest, most directional brand at ‘Fashion Press Week’ last week. Plus a few more vibrant print designs from Tramp in Disguise. As one customer said British Designers is like “a capsule department store full of fashion goodies.”

More next week from the team at British Designers@FashionCapital Bath
