South Africa

This time next week FashionCapital and Fashion Enter will be in South Africa with the Buying Director and Head of Design from asos.com. FashionCapital will be reporting live each day whilst Fashion Enter and asos.com review SA fashion designers and visit the townships to review the beading work of the Fashion Fusion project.

Caren Downie, Buying Director at asos.com commented:

Fashion is all about innovation and style and that is exactly what asos.com stands for today. Asos.com has been working with Fashion Enter Ltd, the not for profit organisation that supports new and emerging fashion designers, for the last two years. This International Fashion Fusion project is yet another way how asos.com can support not only the UK fashion industry but also on a global level with South Africa’s townships. We will be looking for innovative designers to create a selection of brand new garments that uses the beading and embellishments from the crafters in the townships. This project is for anyone with a sense of fashion and is a national first for all concerned.’

Shoplifting at highest level for 12 years

Shoplifting has hit its highest level since 1997, new figures have shown. The thefts jumped 10 per cent last year alone with more than 320, 000 incidents reported. The surge was the result of police being told to go easy on shoplifters, claimed the conservatives. ‘Shop theft has been largely ignored by the Labour with police forces being told to de-prioritise it,’ said James Brokenshire.

WGSN Shocker

WGSN is supposedly known as ‘the world's leading fashion and style forecaster', however its 36,000 customers will be deprived of their ‘Delayed Trends' educational service: WGSN. A service allows users access to a time delayed version of the WSGN website and offers online research, trend analysis and a news service for the fashion and style industries.

Fashion Capital's educational package and membership offer exceeds far beyond that of WGSN allowing student members to access all of our member's services and restricted areas on the website. These include trend predictions up to 2 years in advance, the exclusive design cycle and retail opportunities via our exclusive boutiques!

Membership with Fashion Capital would cost you £175 (plus VAT) per year. Our educational package offers access to ALL sections on the website as well as a whole host of other opportunities. This costs just £599 (plus VAT) per year and means that up to 50 students have their own personal accounts with the site. If there isn't enough information here to persuade you, please do not hesitate to contact us on emily@fashioncapital.co.uk.
