The Art of Fashion – in the press!
The Art of Fashion takes place next Tuesday 15th February and is set to take pre London Fashion Week celebrations by storm! Already coverage has been seen in the Metro, Glam Uk and a double page spread in Urban Life Magazine!

The exhibition at BD @FC in Portman Village will see original pieces from illustrators and graphic artists, each depicting the lines, styles and inspirations of fashion. Each work embraces the shapes, movements and emotions of fashion – some of the pieces in the Art of Fashion collection were the starting sketches and drawings that inspired fashion lines that later hit the catwalk.

Workshops on the legal side of people working for you
Lots of organisations have people working as “interns” or on “work experience”. Many of these people are not being paid, when in fact they should at least be getting National Minimum Wage. It’s true that if someone is really not working (and aren’t supposed to be!), then minimum wage does not apply. But the exclusions from minimum wage rules are specific – most people qualify. Check out the full article to give you a start on seeing if you could be storing up trouble with potential fines and back pay.
There’s a lot of confusing information out there about the legal side of having people work for you. Some of it is plain wrong, and some is not well known … but is just waiting to trip you up.
Find out what works and what doesn’t. What are the pitfalls, and how to go round them
Christopher Head is a barrister with over thirty years experience in the employment field. He is a specialist adviser to Fashion Enter.
Christopher is running a series of three short seminars, aimed at giving you a quick, clear view of the information you need to keep away from problems and trouble when you have people working for you.
The first seminar, on 2nd March, deals with how to decide whether to have people working self-employed freelance, or employed.
The second seminar, on 16th March, discusses setting up a legal agreement for hiring freelancers and making it work.
The third seminar, on 30th March, explains how to get the law on your side when dealing with employees, so that you can get what you need.

Title: How Much Are You Really Making?
Topics:
1. Introduction to Profit/Loss – How many garments do you have to sell before you start making money? How do you know if your prices are going to cover all your costs? Why wait until the end of the year to find out from your accountant just how successful you were this season? A simple Profit/Loss account is the starting point to answering these questions and helping you manage your business well.
2. Recording your sales and purchases – Simple, practical, ways to record your income and expenditure that don’t take up a lot of time but do keep you in control.
3. How to treat stock – How to value fabrics, trimmings and finished garments.
4. VAT – Do you need to be VAT registered? Would it pay to be VAT registered?
5. Cash Flow – How would your business be affected if one of your customers was late paying you? Are you sure you will be able to pay for your garments when they are ready? This section will introduce a simple cash flow tool to help you plan ahead.
