Bath Spa University – Fashion & Textile Foundation Degree

This course addresses the balance of fashion and textiles by offering equal input into both subject areas enabling students to pursue a chosen path within the fashion and textile industry.
The course aims to train students primarily through experience of practice in designing and making, giving a practical skills base to enable students to progress to a career in the Fashion and Textiles Industry.
Course Structure and Content
This exciting new course is the latest collaboration between Bath Spa University and City of Bath College.
Year 1 takes place at the City of Bath College, in the centre of Bath and is designed to be a lively and demanding introduction to the basics of Fashion and Textiles with the emphasis on innovation, skills and creativity.
Year 2 takes place at Bath Spa University’s Sion Hill campus and provides an opportunity to build on Textile and Fashion design skills, including a work placement and projects set with the industry. The final project gives the opportunity to specialise either in Textiles with Fashion or Fashion with Textiles.
Throughout the two-year course you will be given a wide range of skills and experiences, both technical and creative, these will be supported by an understanding of cultural, social and business skills.
Year 1
Delivered at City of Bath College, this year provides an introduction to technical processes in Fashion and Textiles.

Teaching Methods and Resources
You will benefit from:
- Visiting lecture programme: from practising designers, designer makers and other fashion and textiles related positions.
- Workshops: a key part of the course, including designing, pattern cutting, construction, textile techniques and processes.
- Seminars: discussion groups to debate issues of interest and to ensure that you are well informed about past practise, current practise and future ideas.
- Tutorials: regular personal tutorials with contextual and studio staff.
- Work Reviews: one work review per semester with key staff.
- Visits/links with the industry: organised visits to exhibitions, industry, shows and museums both nationally and internationally.
- Work placement and exchanges may be made nationally and internationally.
- Industry led project.

Industry Projects have included: Ted Baker, Chloë, Nicole Farhi, Whistles, Karen Millen and Double O.
