Comme Des Garcons Go Vacant

Comme des Garcons have replicated the Vacant store concept by opening up a temporary store for a one-year period. Vacant originally came up with the temporary store/gallery experience, opening for one month only in empty spaces in cities such as: New York, London, Tokyo, Shanghai, Paris, Berlin, Stockholm and Los Angeles. The store provides a travelling showcase for an exclusive range of one-off, hard to find limited edition items. Since the recent Comme des Garcons opening the Vacant database has been inundated with e-mails asking if the Comme des Garcons site is a one-year Vacant store?

Meanwhile, Vacant presses forward with future plans including: growth into several new retail markets, pairing with companies to create retail vehicles and the opening of a Vacant annex, a permanent unit based in New York. Vacant guerilla stores will also continue to open throughout the year; Amsterdam, Chicago, Los Angeles, Paris, San Francisco and Stockholm are all on the list. Colin McDowell – Fashion Fringe’s Creative Director, mentioned that the lack of experience and technical knowledge has often let London’s young creative designers down. “That is why Fashion Fringe has set up an international advisory committee of supporters, all of whom are highly respected in their fields, to give us the benefit of their experience, advice and opinions. They do not have executive status in Fashion Fringe:
basically, they are friends; people we trust and admire; people who share our enthusiasm for Fashion Fringe; people who have generously agreed to give us the advantage of their knowledge and expertise for
which we are very grateful.”
