For those that have been living in a deep, dark hole, Felder Felder is the hot label, by German twins, Daniela and Annette Felder. The leggy, blonde, 5’11 sisters have taken the fashion world by storm with their rock chick cool collections and excellent execution and detailing. 

Stocking in Browns Focus, this design duo are so on trend right now, as the rock look is making a huge comeback, however, even more to their advantage is that they create looks that will work for a range of ages and lifestyles. Right from the ‘it’ girls to glamorous Hollywood actresses, with the likes of Gwenyth Paltrow amongst their fan base.

 

 

Felder Felder discussed their upbringing in a small German village and how their love of fashion stemmed from their glamorous mother and their love to experiment. Becoming festival goers from a young ages, music was and still is a heavy influence in their collections, with their latest offering being inspired by the likes of Iggy Pop.

The girls confess, that growing up they were definitely not the norm in their village. Dressing in matchy-matchy outfits, down to identical looks, the twins started to take the fashion world by storm and at 5’11, it wasn’t long before the girls were gracing the catwalks. 

 

 

However their love of design was only spurred on further by modelling and they started to bug designers to give them work placements. 

This led them to stints with a whole host of creatives including a personal favourite of mine, Robert Cary Williams. Knowing they needed a solid degree base, they followed the dream, again created for them as youngsters by their mother, heading to Central St Martins, where they studied alongside one another (though worked separately during this period).

 

Upon graduating, the girls knew they wanted to work as a duo and set up what is now known globally as Felder Felder. The edgy, rock, glamour, creates the illusion of a non-stop party girl, who, is understated in black, with flashes of colour and is always attention grabbing. 

This heavy influence of rock music paves way to the girls well cut jackets, fondness of leather and sleek dresses, styled effortlessly with chunkier footwear. Smokey eyes and back combed hair is a must and the Felder Felder girls just ooze coolness.

 

 

The girls, interviewed by fashion illustrator, Daisy de Villeneuve, allowed an insight into the thought process of two incredibly talented designers. We saw snap shots of a life pre-London and heard about all the exciting up and coming projects the girls have in store (they are designing new Nobu uniforms, never have I wanted to waitress more!) They were both funny and engaging and as the talk closed with the footage of their A/W 09 show in Berlin, it will only be a matter of time before we see them creating global dominance.
