Trend: Into the Wild

10-07-2013

When Jean Paul Gaultier sends 43 couture looks down his runway, and 35 of them feature leopard spots, we think it’s safe to say that the print of AW13/14 is pretty much set. Forget skin tight, cleavage-busting prints, this season the spot grows up with pixelated pieces, sharp cuts and more coverage, taking you from work to play in no time.

Coats and jackets, whether accentuated with spots, or a hint of trim, or completely covered by fur or pattern, were an obvious highlight at the Gaultier show. However, for those less enthusiastic about embracing their wild side, look out for sheer black leopard print patterned tights to add a bit of fierce, and the perfect pop of attitude to your look.

For the very brave, co-ordinates are sticking around for the colder months with Moschino Cheap & Chic showcasing a leopard print suit, roughed up with gothic style leather shoes with spotted accents. Beware: This look is less boardroom and more urban jungle.

Moving on to a more accessible version of the trend, DKNY showed that a more modest interpretation of the print can still be fun, with oversized pixelated spotted tunics being layered over smaller printed shirtdresses. Layer your print on top of different sized spots, textures or shades and combine with tough accessories, like biker boots, to keep it to the perfect level of street cool.

Finally, Burberry Prorsum presented us with a look that is easily transferable between office and street with soft t-shirts, pointy kitten loafer heels and pencil skirts, accessorised with oversized clutches. If you’re looking for something a little less typical, mix it up with different colour palettes, punk pinks or pastel spots were also well, err… spotted. But if you’re really looking to shake it up, we hear this season’s tigress is best enjoyed when she is seeing red.
