Fantastic Turnout for the Fashion Technology Academy Official Launch
26-11-2015
Guests were treated to a new designer fashion show sponsored by ‘looksgreat’ website, a platform for buying and styling soon to be launched February 2016. The ten emerging designers showcased on a snaking runway within the industrial space of the FTA and enthralled the guests with collections from German designer Andrea Zapp (AZ) with her urban digital prints to modern couture and sparkling Swarovski crystals from Marco Capaldo.
However the nights’ shinning stars also included the current cohort of FTA students that were selected to collect their Skills Awards. The FTA is the only training centre in Europe that works alongside a live factory that manufacturers for retailers such as ASOS.com, M&S and Finery London and has created an academy by literally opening up to the unit next door. The skills of the factory are passed over directly to the learners.
The winners of the Skills Awards were:

Simon Platt (pictured left) Sourcing Director of ASOS.com commented: “ASOS.com have supported the recreation of manufacturing skills with Fashion Enter over the last six years and it’s wonderful to see the learners receive their awards tonight. I am proud to see the return of manufacturing back to the UK and we need to ensure this momentum continues. The fashion show was excellent, well done to all the designers.”
Jenny Holloway CEO of Fashion Enter & FashionCapital commented: “It’s a team effort at Fashion Enter. We are blessed with amazing technical staff that can pass on their skills to a future generation of real experts. Our very sincere and grateful thanks to ‘looksgreat’ for sponsoring the catwalk tonight and giving new designers the recognition that they need.”
Councillor Joe Goldberg (pictured right) and Councillor Claire Kober both explained their commitment to supporting manufacturing in Haringey and stressed the importance of real skills for real jobs in the borough. Haringey Council has invested nearly £0.5m in the Fashion Technology Academy to provide accredited learning from levels 1 – 4 in all areas of garment manufacturing from design to machine maintenance.
