Galaxius Systems Ltd: Developing a Track & Trace Platform for UK Fashion & Textiles

28-07-2022

Building on the existing Galaxius Garment Manager platform, which has enabled traceability of garments both during and beyond production, Galaxius systems have extended the reach of the solution to now include collecting data from the material and other component suppliers.

The solutions collect data moving backwards through the supply chain by automatically requesting data and identity to be added to all components including fibres triggered from the materials ordering within the manufacturing.   With a full implementation of the solution the process of a fabric supplier defining the fibres and chemicals in a particular fabric would then trigger a check for definitions on these sub-components and an automatic request for detail should these not be present. These processes allow for the growth of a materials register which can be continually enhanced even after the garments have been produced due to the link from the final garment always tying back to the labour, materials and processes that were part of its production. These identities are then carried forward with the garment allowing the garment to be queried at a future point to determine material content and processes to allow effective recycling.

A successful implementation with the NHS where we introduced gowns with Inseam RFID Tags in partnership with Fashion-Enter has enabled us to prove that the traceability can be maintained even during washes and also lets us automatically add further history to the garments such as number of washes and locations that the garment has been in the hospitals. With the added facilities this same traceability can be carried through the life of the garment allowing for automatic/more efficient material identification reducing the quantities of garments ending up in landfill.

Currently work is underway to build a set of API modules to enable connectivity to multiple systems to smooth the deployment across the industry. A production pilot is in planning and Fashion-Enter has been selected as the production partner for this having been the initial pilot site for the launch of the Galaxius Solution in 2014 and also having worked alongside us in developing the solution further over the last 8-years.

Having a Galaxius solution in the production process has greatly assisted Fashion-Enter in achieving leading status in the Fast Forward audit and we look forward to continuing to work with them as we move towards the upcoming Extended Producer Responsibility requirements for greater transparency and traceability.
