TopShop/Topman Apprenticeship Update

Fashion Enter, sister company to FashionCapital, has become firmly established in the field of fashion and textile apprenticeships. The company has successfully placed apprentices with the likes of high street brands Topshop, New Look and River Island to designer labels such as Roksanda Ilincic, Jonathan Saunders and Marios Schwab.

As you may have read in previous newsletters Fashion Enter was offering an amazing opportunity for 2 Garment Technologist roles at Topshop/Topman.

After receiving over 800 applications, narrowing it down to a final 50 was tough. Many factors were taken into consideration and the final 50 were invited in for a screening and introduction day at The Fashion Studio.

Receiving a presentation about the apprenticeship, the commitment and the qualification gained candidates were then put through a set of tasks to help them show-off their best skills and qualities, including a one-to-one interview, a group pattern cutting task and some form filling out on why they should work at Topshop/Topman.

The final 20 candidates were narrowed down and invited to Topshop.

Candidates had to prepare a 10 minute presentation on the Topshop/Topman brand prior to their interview. Here they had to cover why they loved the brand, why they are best suited for the role, and why they should get that all important garment tech apprenticeship.

After more one-to-ones, giving their presentation and a meeting with Topshop’s head office staff candidates had given all they could for the role, the decision is now down to Topshop.

Here’s what Emily, one of the candidates, had to say about the big day:

It was not at all what I had expected of the afternoon, it was really relaxed and enjoyable, especially watching those videos about Topshop and Topman, it gave me a lot of insight into the company and how fast paced and exciting it really is, making me want to work there even more! The actual interview was very similar in being that the assessors were very friendly making me feel more at ease so could let my personality out a bit more, overall I have learned a lot yesterday, even if I’m not successful I feel it was a good learning experience for me. But saying that yesterday has shown me how great a company it would be to work for and I have come away feeling very positive.”

Decisions are currently being made, so watch this space! Good luck to all!

Boutique Pick of the Week 2_oct_from_somewhere_top

‘From Somewhere’ is a designer label that works primarily with pre-consumer surplus from the manufacturing houses and textile mills of the luxury fashion industry.

The label is a pioneer in combining sustainable thinking with fashion-forward design; bringing quality and craftsmanship to “exquisite rubbish.”

Its founders are Orsola de Castro and Filippo Ricci, who have also played a leading role in the creation of Estethica, the hub for sustainable fashion at London Fashion Week.

From Somewhere brings the tradition of dignified clothesmaking into the digital world with a website where classic and best-selling pieces are available to buy immediately, whilst regular on-line trunks shows invite customers to choose items made to order.

This round neck, A-line, short sleeve top made with superior quality jerseys: cotton blends, silk viscose plissé and superfine silk cotton knit makes for an ideal layering piece and is made in London.
