NEWSLETTER
Dear all,

Newsletter 22nd May 2013

It’s great to see that department store Debenhams have put themselves forward and signed-up to the Equity code for the fair treatment of models in all their promotional and advertising activities. Terms include the likes of not using models under the age of 16 to promote adult clothing ranges and that models booked should not be under a UK size 8. Let’s hope more retailers follow suit.

On FashionCapital this week we talk to Muriel Piaser, The Ambassador of Tranoi Preview Paris about the prestigious show and her career. Paula Arkell-Waller takes a trip to the cinema and reports on the elegant flapper costumes littered throughout the latest adaptation of ‘The Great Gatsby’ while Ashleigh Kane takes a look at the latest penchant for punk.

Bromley Fashion Week

Monday 20th May saw the first day of Bromley Fashion Week and FashionCapital kicked off the series of week long activities and events with the ‘How to Design a T-shirt’ workshop.

The team from the Fashion Studio took centre stage in the Glades Shopping Centre in Bromley Town centre to demonstrate the design process of making a T-shirt from start to finish.

Members of the public could see first hand each stage of producing a garment from creating the pattern to cutting the fabric to stitching the pieces together and by the end of the workshop even walked away with a custom made free T-Shirt! For any budding fashion designers this was a fantastic experience as it really demonstrated exactly what goes in to producing a garment from initial concept to the finished piece. Over 50 T-shirts were made live and given away.

The launch of Bromley Fashion Week was extremely well attended!  We were hosting a ‘How to Design a T-shirt’ workshop and we had the talented team there of Leyle, Beth, Gonul, Ewa, Kristen, Jenny Beth and Jenni Sutton explaining the Design Life Cycle. Without doubt the public loved seeing their garments being made in front of their very eyes using the industrial machines that we had brought over for the day. Credit to the team at Intu for such an innovative way to start the week long event.

Following the workshop and after receiving their T-Shirts here are just a few comments:

‘Very interesting and informative.’ Denise Johnson

‘Lovely design, very happy.’ Tina Slater

‘Really lovely, thank you.’ Mrs E Simms
