Specialist Advisor Pippa Lazaro
Garment Specialist Pippa Lazaro recently joined FC’s specialist advisors section. Members can now review an impressive document on the garment life cycle which Pippa has developed especially for Fashion Capital.
‘I have worked in fashion etail and retail for over 25 years and during this time I am constantly amazed how many Designers, Buyers and Garment Technicians do not understand the garment life cycle. This is the development of the garment from original concept through to garment delivery so for FashionCapital I have expanded the Life Cycle of garments produced in India. This will give you all a much fuller idea of the detail and why time scales and lead times are so protracted when dealing with international companies.’

Clothes Show Live – 2010
Clothes Show Live will unveil a brand new zone at its 2010 show; Sknitch. An amalgamation of sewing, stitching, knitting and needlework, the term ’sknitch’ was coined by the show as an overview term describing the popular hobbies of customisation and ‘make-it-yourself’. Building on the sustained growth of this trend, The Sknitch Zone will offer budding fashionistas an inside look at how the professionals rework old items of clothing to make brand new pieces. As well as ’how to’ sessions and customisation demonstrations, the retail zone will sell all the necessary equipment needed for the hot new ’sknitching’ trend; with everything from fabrics to sewing machines on offer.
This fits in fantastically with The Workshop and we are now looking at expanding our presence at the world’s largest fashion and beauty event by taking a stand in the Sknitch Zone.

As promised here is the interview:
CAD/CAM course with Kingston College Students
Recently the Workshop hosted second year students from Kingston College’s BA Fashion & Textile program on our Vetigraph CAD/CAM course.
Although Kingston College currently does not have the Vetigraph program the student still found the course useful. Student Laura Ockenden had this to say, “I enjoyed using the program and found the techniques to be a lot quicker and more precise in comparison to hand (pattern cutting). Daria was excellent as a guide and it was great to see how they create patterns in the industry.”
Head of Fashion at Kingston College Maia Diver commented:
‘I’m really pleased to hear the course went well – the students have given me great feedback. They have obviously benefited a lot from the course and really enjoyed it. Hannah Mathiot proudly showed me one of her patterns yesterday, which looked impressive. Thanks to everyone for organising this. I hope there may be further opportunities for our students next year!’

Boutique of the Week
This week, Fashion Enters Josie Beckett showed at London Fashion Week as part of the Welsh Designers Collective. She wowed crowds with her gorgeous prints and individual style. The favourite garment for us was this gorgeous velvet body con dress. This ticks all the trend boxes this LFW and it’s a stunning colour, a gem in the dark muted tones we saw so much of.
Josie’s collection Whereareyounow? Josie x is available on ASOS.com and at the Fashion Enter Boutiques.

Until next time, have a great week All the team at Fashion Capital x
