The FashionCapital site is gaining more and more momentum each week and it’s great to have industry leaders such as Vanessa Denza from Denza International giving an exclusive interview to Jojo, our editor. This will take place next week so keep your eyes peeled! We have also been invited to Salford University to portray the virtues of “Getting it Right First Time” and the many advantages of FashionCapital too.

Some interesting snippets in the press this week; apparently Ken Livingstone wants the West End to look like the next 5th Avenue in New York! Long way to go here as the West End has been in decline for years. It’s currently dominated by a host of store bores with very little true individuality. Particularly poor is the eastern End of Oxford Street; a letter is already penned to the Mayors office requesting space for designers such as yourselves to have affordable units to showcase your multitude of talents…nothing ventured!!
Tesco wants to open the UK‘s largest supermarket…yawn yawn! A 12,055 sqm store would be the equivalent size of three football pitches. Personally I find all of this a huge turn off! Where’s the small retailer in all of this? Where’s the individuality? Where’s Tesco’s conscious for the little guys! I can feel another letter about to be penned!
And another interesting story this week is the ASOS sales that have shot up a staggering 94%? Actually is this me or does this smack of copyright infringement? Recent press showed a glittering sequin dress from Burberry that was recently worn by Sienna Miller. Copycat fashion ASOS had a highly similar dress on the site for a mere £65. I am all for enterprise and new ideas but where do the lines of intellectual property start and finish?

Congratulations to our sister site www.fashionenter.com who has had a flurry of new members join last week. A big welcome to Martina Rhodes and Philipa Taverner to name just a few. We look forward to meeting you soon on our one to one mentoring sessions.
Finally a big thank you to the 13 strong team of FashionCapital and Fashion Enter. Over the last nine months the company has grown enormously and we have an excellent team on board. It’s our Christmas do on Saturday so no doubt there will be some pictures to review next newswire! Against all the odds the company is proving to be more and more successful. I know it’s really tough out there for designers and retailers but you just have to dig deep, spot the “money” opportunities and keep going. Its survival of the fittest out there and you have to keep wheeling and dealing to keep the cash flow rolling in.

Until next time.
