Hanging it all together for the fashion industry

NEWSLETTER

Lisa B!! Can you believe it we have Lisa B as the compere for the Gala event at Profile 6.  The former New York supermodel, who has worked on campaigns including Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein and Tom Ford for Gucci will be presenting the Profile 6 gala event.

I wouldn’t want to be a journalist this season there is so much going on next week but the Profile’s philosophy of a trade only event showcasing new and emerging designer talent with an avant-garde twist is paying dividends. Press, buyers and stylists now clearly recognise that the LFF is a non profit making organisation that is there as an honest broker between designers and trade. We have always understood the importance of the high street retailer support but we have still managed to retain that balance of exclusivity and “trade only” label that is vital for the fashion industry.

Attendance for the entire event is up by over 100% – incredible – and the Gala is now full. Please do not try and get in on Wednesday night without a VIP ticket and confirmation that you are arriving for the 8pm event. People will be hanging from the rafters! Grateful thanks here to the Canadian High Commission for providing the red and white wine.

We have had more commercial sponsors than ever before, including L’Oreal, Nivea, Burnt Sugar, Fuji Water, and Mulberry Flowers.

And let’s not forget this is also the first time we have attracted media sponsorship too with Channel 4 Ideas Factory and International Business Magazine.

James Estill, Senior Producer for Channel 4’s IDEASFACTORY, says

“Good, credible showcasing opportunities and getting your name out to the industry is lifeblood for any emerging creative talent, from fashion designers to photographers. PROFILE is a massively important showcasing opportunity and has the added bonus of direct contact with retail buyers, all under one roof. IDEASFACTORY is proud and excited to be supporting this event and hopes that many of these talented designers will make their mark – and, more importantly, some money – in the highly competitive fashion industry.

“PROFILE 6 print media partner – Fashion Business International is strap-lined as ‘the only international magazine for business and technical decision makers in the apparel retails and manufacturing industry’ a perfect fit for the efforts of this project”

Finally we are pleased to announce our charity this season is Mind:

Matt Denning at Mind comments

“Mind is delighted to be the nominated charity for Profile 6. One in four people will experience mental distress at one stage of their lives, and it is great that the creative industry is supporting such an important, yet often overlooked issue. If you would like to find out more about the work of Mind please visit our website at www.mind.org.uk”

So this time next week it will all be happening! See you there. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER YOUR ATTENDANCE ONLINE :

Also, don’t forget that the LFF is exhibiting at LFW – come and see us on stand A20 on the ground floor. We will be showcasing a few of our designers under the Creative London banner. This season it has reverted back to its old haunt the Natural History Museum.

It appears that Britain is slowly becoming a less attractive place to do business according to the World Bank…how can this be so?! Britain is just hanging in to 9th place in the world’s top 10 business-friendly countries as red tape and regulation choke local businesses. Naturally the Treasury disputed the World Bank report. However compare a new business start up in Mozambique who must under go 14 different processes taking 153 days just to register a new business. This compares to just 18 days in the UK via Companies House. It’s not so bad in Britain!

Japan appears to be becoming an exporter’s dream boat. Output grew by 0.8% in the second quarter along reflecting economic growth could hit the 2% mark for the year. That’s just why we have invited Japan Strategies to Profile 6. Japan has an ageing population with disposable income. They love the UK preppie look and the classic British Tailoring – designers, if you are ready, you should be earmarking Japan as a possible export opportunity next year.

Also don’t shy away from the high street big names just look at Primark stores. There are 123 stores nationwide and the consumers can’t get enough of the price conscious garments. With sales of £858m generating profits of £108m there is a unique opportunity for CMT units and manufacturers to deal direct and supply fast track production just as we have set up for Peregrine and Imperial Knitwear for Miss Selfridges. There are always opportunities out there – you just have to spot them, plan and then go for it!

So that’s it, a few more wrinkles this week added again!

Until next time.
