Hanging it all together for the fashion industry

Select Profile 5 was by far and away the most successful event held to date. Vinopolis was full to the rafters as we had a surge of last minute registrations by press and VIPs.

The consequential press has been phenomenal with articles being posted on Vogue.com (three to be exact), Daily Express, Drapers, Clash Magazine and WGSN to name a few.

We have even made it into the heady world of The Daily Star and The Sun kind courtesy of Leah Woods’s body expressing itself in an Elvelin Stone outfit! What’s that saying “there’s no such thing as bad press!!” I wonder what her father Ronnie Wood from the Rolling Stones thinks!!

Many thanks to all of the designers, attendees, trade exhibitors and of course the retail sponsors House of Fraser, Hobbs, Debenhams and Topshop. It was a great event, generating valuable leads and opportunities for talented designers. Special mention to WCTA and Haringey Council for their financial support too.

The winners for the event are:

Womenswear sponsored by House of Fraser

Grace: Clairey By Design

Menswear sponsored by Debenhams

Nuno Reis

Accessories sponsored by Hobbs

Olivia Tawakkoli

New Designer Award sponsored by Topshop

Angela Jackson (£5,000 award)

So the wheels are in motion for Profile 6 which will revert back to a two day event in September. The venue will remain at Vinopolis and will also include the static trade show as previous Profiles. Designers get those applications in now!

We are currently revamping the trends sections on FashionCapital and we are delighted to announce that Caroline Shaw will be providing trend predictions on the site.  Caroline is steeped in expertise and experience and works constantly with fashion, accessory and jewellery designers. In addition Caroline trained as one of the few world wide “Colour Psychologists” which means that Caroline can translate the story and meaning behind new colour trends – this is a real first for FashionCapital and will provide valuable information for the users.

We are working with the Channel 4 Risking it All team at the moment and have short listed 15 designers for preview. Such an exciting project for the designers involved and hopefully some of the designers will make it to the final stage and be showcased on TV. Will keep you informed if there are any of our designers nominated.

Finally we are delighted to announce that you all have a unique opportunity to have afternoon tea at the House of Lords! Our patron Lord Andrew Stone is so delighted with the progress of LFF and FashionCapital that he would like to hear your views and news about the industry. Lord Andrew Stone is well versed in clothing and textiles as he was the main board Director of ladieswear for Marks and Spencer (hence the contact as I was a selector at M&S a few moons ago!). The date for the afternoon tea is scheduled for 18th May and all you have to do is send an email to.

lordstone@fashioncapital.co.uk

explain in no more than 50 words why you would like to go to the House of Lords. Easy peasy! Lord Stone will review the comments himself and select accordingly.

Anyone out there doing the London Marathon too on April 17th? Anyone feeling physically sick at the mere thought of running 26 long long miles? Can I just sincerely express thanks for all the encouragement I have received from you out there – it really helps.
