Louise Amstrup at Copenhagen Fashion Week

12-02-2010

Having showcased at London Fashion Week it was nice to see a familiar name.

Amstrup provided a breathe of fresh air, steering away from the Danish tradition for minimalism and practical, wearable clothes and demonstrated an ability to create a fantasy.

The main theme running through the collection was finding something beautiful in something terrible, with contrasting undertones of strength and youth pitched against age and decay.

The collection was dark and grungy, with a palette of navy, black and grey mixed with flashes of multi coloured prints.

Asymmetric tops and constructed skirts mixed with short dresses and floor length coats made up the bulk of the collection. Soft jersey was draped, transparent mesh, cashmere and thick neoprene were all fused and worked in together creating a dramatic contrast of textures. Particular attention was paid to sleeve detailing and panels, playing with lengths and layers.

An intelligent collection with a clear vision, it was coherent, rebellious and totally her own.
