Royal College of Art Fashion Show 2007

08-03-2007

PRESS RELEASE

ROYAL COLLEGE OF ART FASHION SHOW 2007

This year, the Royal College of Art Fashion Show will be taking place before London Graduate Fashion Week (LGFW).

The eagerly anticipated catwalk show will be open to the public on Wednesday 23 May and to press and trade on Thursday 24 May, followed by the Gala in the evening. Thirty-five postgraduate fashion students will showcase their final collections in menswear, womenswear, accessories, footwear and millinery.

The decision to move the show to a slightly earlier date is because the College’s other degree shows will be taking place this year in mid-June. The move will also avoid clashes with scheduled LGFW events.

The Royal College of Art is the home of the world’s only wholly postgraduate Fashion Department. Founded by Madge Garland, former Vogue editor in 1948, the Department is renowned for its links with the clothing and textiles industry, ranging from companies such as United Arrows (Japan), Levi’s, Umbro to Missoni and Burberry. These professional contacts frequently lead to sponsorship, international placements and freelance design work for the students and are one of the reasons behind the statistic-defying level of success that awaits students graduating from the College (92.5% of RCA Fashion MA graduates gain employment in the industry, and at the appropriate level).

An emphasis on individual creativity and originality married with impeccable technical know-how means that graduates are entering the market with exactly the right skills needed to thrive in the profession. Snapped up by international fashion houses, many have gone on to establish their own labels. Those who have shaped the face of fashion include Ossie Clark, Philip Treacy, Antony Price, Julien Macdonald, Christopher Bailey – Burberry, Kevin Carrigan – Calvin Klein, Hamish Morrow, Gordon Richardson – Topman, Eric Bremner – Sportmax, Andrew Fionda – Pearce Fionda, Adele Clarke – Tanner Krolle, Brian Kirkby – Boudicca, Clare Waight Keller – Pringle, Julian Roberts, Erdem and Georgina Goodman – just a few of the names who have graduated from the Fashion Department at the RCA.
