Artists who are really motivated and proactive are more likely to succeed in a competitive industry. Networking helps and the place to be was the International Make Up Artist Trade Show. Here you found artists who are working on shows that you want to work on. Smart artists and followers of the industry stay informed, with the latest materials and techniques, which gives them the edge over their competitors. The world is changing very quickly and the skills and products that were considered the latest and greatest a few years ago probably are not on the cutting edge now.

The very best in the industry attended the event, including our very own Eryca Freemantle.

Mary Greenwell

One of the Keynote speakers was Mary Greenwell, who in Eryca's opinion is the ultimate creme de la creme in the industry. Mary has made up supermodels like Christy Turlington, Cindy Crawford and Naomi Campbell.  She has regularly worked on Vogue, she was once booked for five Vogue covers in a row, and in 1997 she styled Princess Diana.  She is a serious player in the world of fashion make up.

Yana Johnson

Yana Johnson MBE has since developed to represent the diverse views of makeup & beauty for black women in the UK and 7 years later being recognised on the Queens Honours list as MBE in 2009 for her numerous achievements to the Cosmetics industry. As a highly passionate and creative individual, Yana has brought insight, vision and value where ever there was potential.  With a natural ability to discern and translate the needs of the ethnic beauty market, Yana has inspired many and created a trail of success, most recently recognized in her being awarded MBE in the new years Honors list.

On behalf of fashioncapital our own Eryca Freemantle, would like to congraulate Yana Johnson for her recent MBE.

Academy

The Academy is set in a class of its own, being the first in the industry that is owned and operated by freelance hair and make-up artists. They are an association of some of the best international artists. This enables them to demonstrate the latest styles and techniques from high fashion catwalk shows and advertising campaigns from all over the world. The Academy lists artists that work with major celebrities and the biggest names in fashion and media. There is no better place to learn than from their artists, who are at the top of their profession now. They strive to go that extra mile, giving their students not only the skills needed in this exciting trade, but the benefit of inside knowledge from their artists. Students leave them well prepared with the skills and a thorough understanding of the industry, enabling them to reach the top. The fresh, up-to-date and honest approach to teaching is centered around a relaxed atmosphere in our central London studio.

The Academy of Freelance Make Up is one of the only hair and make-up training institutes in the world teaching in a working photographic studio and not in a classroom or make-up studio. This gives the students the all-round, on the job experience of the day-to-day life as a professional make-up artist before they leave.

Academy

The Academy and its artists have built a strong reputation and are at the forefront of the industry, being one of the only institutes sponsored and supported by several famous cosmetic and hair-product houses. This gives students the opportunity to work with them and their products. As a result of this high reputation the Academy lists clients ranging from top photographers, magazines and fashion designers. This enables the Academy to provide selected students invaluable work experience with the possibility of jobs after completing the courses.

The artists have created detailed courses for the very beginners with no experience to meet the needs of the aspiring new artist. Current hair or makeup artists who feel the need to refresh or update their skills are also welcome. They guarantee the best possible start, and pride ourselves in making sure that every student leaves feeling confident, prepared for the industry and has a high standard of skills essential for their success.
