Thick Skin
23-04-2009

Last week we touched on Success Mastery which is such an important subject and this week I want to know how thick your skin is?
Life is difficult let's be real here, unless you are mega rich already or you have a very rich husband or boyfriend you will be starting to make a successful life for yourself from scratch and I want to share real honest knowledge and guidance with you so you know what you are letting yourself into lol. (I hope you don't mind).
Before we start I need to point out my definition of Thick Skin because you will need it to succeed.
My definition of someone who is Thick Skinned is:
‘Someone who takes criticism well and takes it on board and improves themselves for the better, that person is also genuine and soft on the inside yet they have a thick skin when it comes to the word NO (Just the word NO) other then this be yourself, don't harden yourself to make it in the industry because you need your personality to connect with people and to get ahead in the industry, people by people (Which means the modeling industry is very people orientated and if you make a good impression on a job you will be called back again, and again, and again) – just be you, stay normal and don't become hard, bossy or rude and enjoy the ride'!
If you are already rude, arrogant then you're probably too far gone for my advice.
The rules of having a Thick Skin is that it should only be a protective bubble when you hear the word NO, because you need that layer to continue, on and on and not to mention it helps to block out negative people in your life – That's my definition of using a layer of Thick Skin to your advantage. Please don't overstretch my information and go out there not listening to anyone, there is a difference between blocking out people who are getting in your way and not taking good advice but more on that another time!!
I can demonstrate my layer of Thick Skin by explaining my own experience to give it some context.
In my case I always knew I was a creative person and trying to tell my mum that was difficult to begin with because I was the only one in my family that was interested in the creative fields, my mum almost killed me when I said I was studying fashion design, picture it 16-17yrs and explaining my career plans to my mum – WELL put it this way it took a lot of convincing.
Anyway, I went off to fashion school and all I kept hearing in the background and every given moment was, why don't you go out and get a proper job!! Anyone ever heard this?
My point is – Advice Tip:
You have to live your life and follow your dreams at any cost and be prepared for the negative minds and the people who will need convincing – it does take a lot of energy out of you, but that is why it is so important to have positive like minded people around you and plus it is worth it in the long run if your serious about what you want to do so it's all good.
Do you have the right people around you?
The work continues – UP NEXT WEEK!!
Until then please review your Things to DO List below – Stay focused!!
Things to do this week:
1) Who do you need to convince? Who drains your energy? Who do you need to block out? Do you have a Thick Skin? Have you changed for the worst since modeling?
Please be honest with yourself!!
