Womenswear Spring/Summer 06 –

07-01-2005

The mood

The mood for the spring/summer 06 season seems to be somewhat a mixed blend of Nature and Technology!

We have had many different aspects of nature over the past few years.  The real and untouched – went from pretty and floral to the artificial.  For the Spring/Summer season 06 we will see that the artificial is embraced in nature and modern – day fairytale which will encompass an exploration of floriculture, romance and beauty.  This is the first theme which will also be embraced by a second, Technology.  So in other words Romance in a digital world.

There seems to be a continuing interest in gardens, which combines both fantasy and ordered ornament.  Applied together results in clothes adorned with decoration, Asiatic minimalism, influences, with design, contrived and controlled.

The colour

Surface decoration and colour in Nature and Technology are inspired by a botanical re-think; Colorways will include a softened palette along with brighter highlights.  Imagine old fashioned flower gardens seen in a new light, draw on these references, a paradox between colours such as French blues and lavenders, in contrast to the high-tec ambiance

of coal black and synthetic pink.

The Silhouette

We will see silhouettes take form in the shape of pleating and folding which play with shape and volume. Japanese design will play an important role with starkness and crisp manipulation.  Details will include, quilting, plissé and dye effects – adding a modern edge.  The Silhouette will be simple, yet on the surface we will see an ordered chaos of controlled decoration. Contemporary details are ordered just as if in a post-modern ornamental garden.   The garden is a huge influence especially on pattern for Nature and Technology.

The prints

Patterns and prints will have a huge impact on Spring/Summer 06 – we will see an influx of fragile flowery prints.  Nature and Technology both go hand in hand. Prints will be seen to be on one side feminine, floaty and fragile yet on the other, we will see the merge of the digital graphic print.  Technology will merge with traditional motifs and prints will involve imagery from the newest generation of graphics mixed with the old of nature.
