Textile designers on line – profile “Caroline Wall”

The idea to provide an archive of information ranging from Fashion Through the Ages to Fashion Around the World plus a new area entitled Textiles has obviously caught the imagination of FashionCapital users and with your help we can make this part of the site enormous. Some of the images already uploaded on to the site in Fashion through the ages are truly inspiring – many thanks to British Library. In the 1990s section the saying “Anything Goes” is certainly true of this era. Here you can see the infamous picture of Naomi Campbell falling off the ill fated Vivienne Westwood shoes in 1997, the fringed leather studded jacket of Gianni Versace in 1992 plus the avant garde Gene Krell Paris 1997. As the site develops new and exciting images will be posted regularly. One exciting development is the Textiles section and we had a instant response to last weeks newswire from a host of textile designers in particular Caroline Wall caught the imaginative eye of LFF. Caroline is truly a creative textile designer with a flare for florals. The designs portrayed encompass a mix of William Morris florals, to stylised roses and Laura Ashley wall paper prints to name just a few sources of inspiration. Caroline completed her MA Fashion Course in printed textiles at Central St Martins in 1996. Due to a lack of design positions available at that time Caroline went to work as a buyers clerk at River Island which proved almost too much for such a talented designer. Within a short period of time Caroline opened her doors for business as a free lance designer opening accounts with Libertys under the Godfrey label. Soon afternthe prints were picked up and promoted by Maire Claire. Not content with such success Caroline taught herself CAD design and the rest, as they say, is history. Caroline now desings prints for Marks and Spencer, Debenhams and BHS. In addition Caroline has expanded into the relms of interior design with Arevdour and has just recently received commissions for socks! Is there nothing such a talented designer can not turn her hand too. If there are other textile designers that would like to promote their work on the On-line Museum “Textiles” please contact the office on 020 8462 1475. Jenny Holloway Industry Advisor.
