LFW Sept 08 – Ann

15-09-2008

This is the second season that I have seen Ann-Sofie Back and though last time I enjoyed the show I can't say I was particularly inspired. This time round though was another story entirely.

Carrying on with her research into ‘celebrity culture' using ‘liposuction and cosmetic surgery as an unlikely point of reference' the collection was awash with fashion favourites that had been deconstructed in way that only Ann-Sofie Back knows how.

The ‘nip/tuck' theme also translated well into quirky prints that replicated the felt tip pen markings used by plastic surgeons.

There were plenty of slashed and asymmetric dresses, draped to perfection with layers of ruched chiffon, while ruffles were slashed and left hanging, creating asymmetric hem lines.

Ann-Sofie Back resurrected this seasons staple, ‘The Tuxedo Jacket', opting for a boxy oversized style, as well as a shorter version with oversized lapels.

These came in both traditional black wool, as well as sumptuous silks in dove grey and caramel.

Stripes were another key element to the collection and allowed Ann-Sofie Back to bring in a sporty feel through the streamlined jersey cuts. The stripes really and truly shaped the body with the bust line stripes curving to effectively outline the figure.

Trousers had beautiful pin tuck detailing, with wide leg cuts, as well as the in thing for S/S 09 ‘Capri pants' so get toning!

Now if you thought ‘tassels' were a one season thing, I'm afraid you better sit down, as Ann-Sofie Back has decided they should stay, and I whole heartedly agree. Choosing a suede royal blue Ann-Sofie went for asymmetric fringing on skirts, shift dresses and jackets, to create a truly new twist on an old season idea, definitely my favourite pieces of the day!

Overall colours were again very spring like with plenty of cool ice-cream shades such as ‘white, cream, taupe and mint, that were accented with black' to create a strong but wearable collection.

Once again Ann-Sofie Back has created a strong and clever collection. No one can argue that this woman has extremely strong pattern cutting skills, with the perfection being in the tiny details that allow a hem to hang ‘just so' that a classic shirt dress suddenly becomes a piece of great detail and interest. I'm most certainly looking forward to watching her future collections, now excuse me while I go tone up my calves, as its beginning to look like 2009 is the year of the Capri!
