LFW Sept 08 – Weather or Not
16-09-2008
Olanic designer Niki Taylor hales from Scotland, a country with unpredictable weather and distinct lack of a Summer, which is where she took the idea for her latest collection, entitled ‘Weather or Not' The inspiration for the collection is taken from the image of a quirky weather girl, it is a collection with practicality in mind, to be easily adaptable for use in extreme changes of weather.
The quirkyness of the weather girl look is apparent in the playful patterns, practical jersey fabrics and fun silhouettes, which were short at the hem and voluminous, but nipped in at the waist.
The initial feel was quite eighties, a little ‘breakfast club' mixed with Nicole Kidman as a weather girl in the film to die for' The first phase was made up of playsuits, butterfly shaped short dresses and voluminous top and high waisted tailored short combos which were all brightly patterned.
The pallet was made up of white, dulled pinks, cornflower blue and accents of black. As the look became more grown-up and tailored the palette changed to beige and black, with hints of white. Silhouettes were more form fitting and longer, giving more coverage against the elements. Trousers were Peg shaped and dresses were loosely fitted, some with a utility feel. Taylor has a technical nack, which was showcased more prominently towards the end of the collection in the structured detailing and non-symmetrical modern lines of the pieces.
The final phase moved on to glitz and glamour in all-over black sequined pieces, paired with modern tailored skirts and trousers, enhanced by recurring black and red stripes which made the structured draping, slightly more dramatic and edgy giving a young, yet sophisticated modern look.
Pictures to follow….
