Fringing, opulent prints, folklore, fur and an overall mix of prints are back and are in full swing for Autumn/Winter 08/09 which was shown in February 08 of this year.

This trend has been seen from international designers such as Anna Sui, Emilio Pucci, Gucci, Giorgio Armani, DKNY, Jaeger and Matthew Williamson.

This look has had a come back many times through seasons past, however this season there is much more focus on the actual print.  Paisley prints in beautiful autumnal colours rein king, worked in with shaggy furs adding to that 70’s hippy glamour.  Fringing is applied as a detail to garments.  Tippets, trims embellishments and fur are used as a subtler way to wear this trend.

Folk as the fashion pack call it is a huge trend for this season and can be worn in many different ways as the scope is huge. Little jackets can be worn over knitted crochet jumpers, velvets worn against opulent silks, with a plethora of prints in a variety of shapes and styles from flowers to paisley to Indian and Mexican prints.

This trend will most definitely filter through to Spring/Summer 2009; however the fabrics will be much lighter.  FashionCapital predicted June 2008 a mixture of this trend focusing on the fringing and prints (which can be seen on the FC Trend Prediction page.  (If you are a member click here ).

Anna Sui is by far one of the most creative designers when it comes to fabric design.  This trend is summed up perfectly by looking at this collection.  She effortlessly combines and mixes up patterns with sheer brilliance.  She has used a whole range of ethnic references from Mexican to Indian dress.  I love the way in which she has used a mesmerage of colours but has kept them primary with blues, reds, purples and blacks.

Details…

Again looking at the detail you can see the way in which she has used the paisley print and has worked it in with African, Mexican and Indian prints.  Fringing is used on hemlines as well a beading.  There is so much intricate craftmanship worked into this collection with the cleaver use of apllique and embroidery with special attention focusing on overlaying of materials using different weights.
