Fur – Love it or hate it!
By Vanessa Camelia
Fur will always been seen as glamorous and you cannot get away from the fact that the feel of real fur is beautiful – however would I wear a real fur coat, the answer is a defiant NO! This season the fur is a pretty big trend and as the title suggests love it or hate it, it has made a huge come back on the 2008 2009 catwalks! Designers such as Alexander McQueen, Emilio Pucci, Fendi, John Galliano, Lanvin,
Salvatore Ferragamo, Dolce & Gabanna, Jaeger London and many more have once again embraced the catwalks with fur, but where do you stand on this subject? Is it something that you just over look and think it doesn’t affect you?

I myself was ignorant to what actually goes on and I did not have a thorough understanding until I was walking up to Harrods and was given a leaflet – the images were disgusting and very thought provoking. I visited the PETA website and was stunned.
So who are PETA and what do they stand for?
A person for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), with more than 2.0 million members and supporters, is the largest animal rights organization in the world.
PETA focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: on factory farms, in laboratories, in the clothing trade, and in the entertainment industry. We also work on a variety of other issues, including the cruel killing of beavers, birds and other "pests," and the abuse of backyard dogs.
PETA works through public education, cruelty investigations, research, animal rescue, legislation, special events, celebrity involvement, and protest campaigns.

Just recently PETA targeted Donna Karen and produced thousands of posters displaying a woman’s foot trampling on a rabbits neck with the
tagline "Where Does Donna Karan Stand on Fur?"To view the full thread from individuals and see the poster click here

PETA also work with sane celebrities the one’s with their brains still in tack who back what PETA are trying to do. Eva Mendes recently posed nude and spoke out about wearing fur.
Quote: "I want people to know that there are options—that killing a poor animal and wearing it isn't cool … respecting all life forms is cool." We couldn't have said it better!

Eva has vowed never to wear fur again unlike Naomi Campbell so ignorantly went back on her word thinking that the world would simply forget what she has said!

And she’s not the only one Natalie Imbruglia is the latest celebrity to be used by PETA.

Quote:
"There is no kind way to rip the skin off animals' backs. In the wild, animals are caught in snares and steel-jaw traps that slam down on their limbs – they often cut down to the bone and mutilate animals' legs and paws", Natalie says. "Anyone who wears any fur shares the blame for the torture and gruesome deaths of millions of animals each year."

Be warned there are some very disturbing images on the website but are there to shock you into thinking twice before purchasing fur or any kind of animal fur for that reason.

There are many anti fur websites that have been set-up to raise our awareness of what actually goes on to these innocent animals.
