LFW Feb 09 – House of Blue Eyes
26-02-2009

Last night 'The House of Blue Eyes' showed their latest collection (I think that's what happened anyway) at Beach Blanket Babylon in Shorditch.

After bashing our way through the crowd outside, it was a mad house! We got our (non free) drinks and waited. This was not your typical fashion affair. For those not familiar with the scene at BBB, think Leigh Bowery / Ziggy Stardust and the Mighty Boosh all rolled into one packed, dark bar.

The show started with 'Jonny Blue Eyes' (no, not his real name) of 'House of Blue Eyes' (THOB) fame dressed as blackbird, pushing another scantily clad male down the stairs. This was quickly followed by two podium dancers, a slightly pale and lanky man in leopard print pants and a woman in a feathered skirt and nipple tassels, who danced on a box for the remainder of the 'show'.
Once this was all in the place and I was thoroughly confused, the 'non-models' trooped down the stairs in a host of creations. From what I could see (in the poorly lit basement, with non-models that walked so fast I often missed them entirely) 'THOBE' presented a punk rock collection that was aiming to emulate early Sex Pistols / Westwood style. There was loose knit jumpers for boys and insane PVC creations for the girls, mainly tube dresses and corsets. There was a fantastic lavender body, encrusted with sparkle and a lovely sheer white cape, as well as good menswear printed waistcoat.

After a while Jodie Harsh appeared in a lace, black dress, pushing another leather clad male down the stairs and someone dressed in unflattering lycra sprinkled petals on the floor. After a while non-models stopped appearing and without a word, signal, clap, cheer or walk through, the BBB crowd just dispersed and went back to drinking, dancing and posing for the many cameras wanting to get a picture of these Leigh Bowery like characters.
