Bringing Bollywood
16-03-2009

For anyone who hasn’t seen the legendary film Slumdog Millionaire …. turn away now.

In the credits the entire cast dances to the song Jai Ho. The dancing is traditional and respectful, suitable for showing in all countries. So why, I ask, have the Pussycat Dolls felt the need to dress up their lead vocalist Nicole Scherzinger in a traditional get-up and learnt the dance moves? When you think of the pussy cat dolls what images springs into your mind? Well for me its gyrating, uncovered flesh. Hardly the face of traditional Indian morals.

It seems to be a new trend sweeping the US. It’s been said that celebs and a-listers in America are queuing up to take Hindi dance lessons after the success of Slumdog. Watching the dance it’s understandable. The dancing is energetic and fun. In the Pussycat Dolls version Nicole is wearing tiny, yellow, midriff baring top, red skinny jeans, a skinny belt and fringed boots. This is the modern ‘Bollywood’ style and we wonder if this is going to become more common over here.

Her colouring and beautiful almond eyes suggest Indian heritage but in fact she is part Filipino, part Hawaiian, part Russian and there is said to be German ancestry on her mother’s side as well.
It looks like bright colours, bindi’s and bollywood glam are going to be a big thing!
