Illionaire – RAFW – Spring Summer 09/10

21-05-2009

Their spring summer 09-10 collection "Echoes" follows Illionaire's signature style as they opened the show to the tune of Annie Lennox's 80's anthem 'who's that girl running around with you?' setting the scene for their glory box of cinematic and musical memories.

This year they outshined their past collections as they revamped the typical retro style by refining cuts to give a more sporty and androgynous feel. The white oversized shirts with button stand in contrast black, creates the illusion of a skinny tie as the designers play with trompe l'oeil effects. Paired with high waisted leather pants the look resembled a contemporary tuxedo suit.

The colours and silhouettes hinted elements of the past decade as high waists and capped sleeved shoulders prevailed throughout. Frilled leather skirts and cropped tops made a comeback together with gold trims and accessories not to mention the gold jumpsuit! But, mixed with a variety of fabrics including leather, silk cotton voiles, and soft cotton knits gave the range that modern aesthetic we were all looking for.

The swimwear on the other hand was a fusion of Jane Fonda and warrior woman as models walked down with animal printed cropped tops and high waisted briefs teamed with black leather boots; A gender bending look especially when worn by models with short black hair and pale faces, very Agnes Deyn.

Silk Digital Prints in an array of colour palettes, are a predominating feature in Illionaire's work however, this season it also included some basic plain tones of black and navy which heightened the sophistication of the label. This was especially visible in their series of little black maxi dresses with cut out necklines and backs.

With quality tailoring and fabrication, every garment is carefully thought through and designed with their unique style in mind.  It might lend it self a little as an 80's flashback but its one we all definitely would like to have a piece off.
