GFW 09 – Kingston University

Kingston graduate, Akosua Afriyie-Kumi blew me away with a collection of streamlined, body con, playsuits and structured jackets in crazy prints that included a base of dogtooth, brought up to date with splashes of red, yellow and white. There was plenty of stitch detailing and corset like forms that emphasised waists and curves. The hoods and helmet like accessories, made the styling on this collection spot on.

Yun Lin was next on my list of favourites, who worked on circle pattern cutting to create interesting jackets and coats that emphasised the shapes and the playful nature of the collection. The pastel, calm tones of blue, cream, pink and grey muted the collection so that the focus remained on the pattern cutting. I loved the draped, gathered, front dress in cream. It was simple in concept, but again, strong execution made it perfect, wardrobe staple.

My final Kingston queen, came in the form of Amy Marshall who showed a knit collection of rainbow brights with a sports, lux feel. I loved the diamond pattern techniques and the rainbow leggings and over sized parkas. It was fun, fearless and cheeky and I would happily own it all!
