Floral

Walking down the high street in Kingston this weekend I felt as though I was walking through a meadow…until someone ran over my toe with a push chair and a fight broke out at the ice cream van. Perhaps not. The point I am trying to make here is that floral prints are everywhere this summer. Starting as a big trend in the spring at labels such as Max Mara and Blumarine, this heat wave friendly look quickly translated to the highstreet where it has stayed firmly and shows no sign of relenting.
Keeping things fresh in the florals department is student fave, Topshop, with so much floral around, they've split into four sections, digital, ditzy, painted and chintzy, each with their own unique spin on the trend. Check out their Day of The Dead inspired collection; incorporating the religious symbolism, the pansy prints are made eerie with the addition of skeleton details, x-ray effects and interesting use of fabric, from denim to leather. This hardware is the perfect companion to floral, giving a grungey vibe to an otherwise delicate style.

At the top of my summer wish list (which is doubling up as 21st birthday present request list) is this gorgeous dress from Liberty of London. Admittedly it's hardly friendly to the student budget, especially over summer where the temp work isn't exactly bringing in the big bucks…but it is in the sale and as Liberty print really is back in a big way, it's an essential, right? The cut is perfect, the colours bang on but once again it's the little details that make it work, I just love those bugs!

I've never been a huge fan of Dorothy Perkins but for a catwalk-worthy florals on a lower budget, that's where you've got to get to! They have an amazing selection of skirts and dresses, all with interesting and well thought shapes. They are also scoring top points on the accessories front this season, check out their statement necklaces.
If you really want an eye catching way to wear floral, try swapping your distressed denims for floral flares..well not quite but a bit of alliteration goes a long way. Patterned leggings, tights and trousers can be an inexpensive way to get your floral fix (see, did it again there?) Tights in all colours and patterns are up and down the high street and what're more; you'll probably get change for a tenner! If tights don't do it for you, what about these trousers from New Look?

So my flowers, be fragrant this summer and keep loving those florals!
