Hed Kandi and Miss Selfridge
22-07-2009
Not really having my clubbing head on at 9am on a Monday morning, I headed off to the preview of the Miss Selfridge and Hed Kandi collaborative "Ultimate Clubbing Collection". And I was floored by the collection, the collaboration has so much energy about it, from the print to the design I really got a hit of summer sunshine on a grey London morning.
From its humble beginnings as a compilation brand, 10 years ago (when I was in my Peter Andre phase- not quite a full blown party animal) Hed Kandi has evolved into a global phenomenon and a highly successful lifestyle brand. Hed Kandi's Ibiza residency has moved this year from their Eden and they are now housing their infamous Saturday nights at renowned venue Space.
With music already covered it seems like a natural move to fashion, and Miss Selfridge, it seems, were a natural partners. According to Nicola Heyes, Head of Brand Marketing for Hed Kandi, "Miss Selfridge girls love looking fabulous and having fun, which is everything that Hed Kandi stands for".
The capsule collection of sexy clubbing dresses is inspired by the iconic Hed Kandi graphics, designed by illustrator Jason Brooks. The prints are synonymous with the glamorous and party loving lifestyle that the brand represents (and we all aspire to!) and the designs are distinctively Miss Selfridge. "The Miss Selfridge customer is outgoing and impulsive, romantic and flirtatious, she comes to Miss Selfridge for inspirational and on-trend looks for all aspects of her life- a smart blouse for work or a scene stealing party dress".
Each named after a CD compilation, from Kandi Lounge to Nu Disco, the ten dresses tick loads of fashion boxes, the collection features everything from asymmetric to body con to bubble hems and cut out details; there really is something for every party girl out there!
Fashion Enter Sales Manager Hayleigh Amos, was very excited by the collaboration and was really taken by the prints, coming from a print background herself and being a fan of Hed Kandi illustrator Jason Brooks. "The dresses are great and the prints more than live up to expectation… I would defiantly recommend buying into this unique capsule collection; the pieces are versatile, easy to wear and can be effortlessly be dressed up or down for a rocking night out or a hard days work in the office"
Throughout the summer the Hed Kandi dancers have been putting the dresses through their paces. At Space in Ibiza the dancers modelled the dresses and there is set to be another preview when Hed Kandi hit Pacha in London, this Saturday the 25th of July. The essential clubwear collection will be modelled once again by the dancers before they're finally up for grabs in store on July 30th. It seems they've already made a massive impact on Hed Kandi fans and fashionistas alike, so I'd get down there quickly if I were you! Or register online at www.missselfridge.co.uk/hedkandi to get your mits on them first!
My pick of the bunch was Disco Heaven. An asymmetric blue dress with interesting sheer detail in an amazing night sky inspired print. With the last of the student loan now spent I will not be lucky enough to be rocking mine in an Ibiza nightspot this summer, but I will definitely be dancing around my campsite to some vintage Hed Kandi choons! I'm going to need to practise working it with wellies, I've got to make this baby last until the Christmas Collection which is rumoured to be in the works!
