Fashion Meets Fitness at Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon

21-08-2009

The charity that works for London's 8 Royal Parks, The Royal Parks Foundation, has teamed up with the fashion world this year to create a t-shirt for all 15,000 half marathon runners and 1,000 Pulse3K youth runners to wear on race-day, Sunday 11th October.

Antoni & Alison, a British renowned design duo, Mizuno, a leading sportswear brand, and June Mcleod, a colour consultant all collaborated together in the creation of this t-shirt which is motivational, creative and environmentally sound. The decision was made to bring in the design professionals for the creation of the race shirt to help the runners perform to the best of their abilities and get the most out of the half marathon event.

Antoni & Alison, who will also be running on the day in support of the charity, Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, have designed the t-shirt to be fun and energetic. The writing has been printed as though another runner has scribbled graffiti onto the back, and the ‘I (heart) 2' has been arranged to give the impression of a ½, symbolising that it is a half marathon event.

McLeod explains: "Whether we are aware of it or not, colour affects us physically and mentally. Violet is the colour of purpose and will give the runners an overall boost to help them reach their best time and keep them inspired. Violet will inspire feelings of courage and confidence to boost inner calm, this shade will also help the body feel cooler. Violet also gives a mental boost by helping to make runners feel level headed and focused and, psychologically, runners will feel motivated, determined and inspired."

This fabulous t-shirt design also promotes the green ethos with Mizuno, the suppliers of the race shirt, using a bamboo charcoal material which is a sustainable resource that doesn't require the use of pesticides or fertilizers. Combined with the Mizuno running shoes that incorporate the Mizuno Wave Technology, they are supplying a great apparel and footwear package for all the runners.

During the event runners will pass through four of London's Royal Parks; Hyde Park, St. James's Park, Kensington Gardens and Green Park, as well as Buckingham Palace, Houses of Parliament, Marble Arch and the Royal Albert Hall.
