According to the hemline index skirts that finish thigh high indicate a healthy state of affairs in the economy department. While many a designer may pooh-pooh such a theory there is no denying that a more commercial approach is required in times of recession. Forget experimental and edgy it’s all about classic and desirable in such uncertain times. An ethos that not only applies to fashion but to the models promoting it.

 

With bookings for the international collections currently underway agencies have reported a strong shift towards models with fresh girl-next-door looks and strong, curvy physiques. A prime example being Dutch model Lara Stone. Since signing with IMG in 2006 Lara has steadily moved up the ranks totting up Vogue covers, ad campaigns for the likes of Eres, Jaeger and Givenchy and has catwalked for designers galore on the international circuit. No fly-by-night Lara apparently dropped out of school to pursue her modelling career; somehow we don’t think she’s regretting that decision.
