Rani Jones Spring/Summer 2010:
18-09-2009
Rani Jones collections are a personal favorite to ‘Fashion Capital’ as down at ‘The workshop’ (where I am currently based) we have built a close relationship with the duo as we have amazingly transformed their creative designs into reality. 'The workshop' has produced for this season SS10 collection and the last A/W09 and quite simply feels privileged to be able to work alongside such talent and we are all so thrilled down at the workshop to watch them doing so well.
The true splendor of the SS10 collection was magnified, at the presentation; The setting itself was simple yet creative, the plain white walls, the exposure of the raw beams and steel chairs were all very fitting to the Brutalist architectural style which is the constant influence for the duos designs. The use of the angular geometries shapes the entire striking collection, which in turn creates an empowering, blocky aesthetic.
The duo lit the room with there smiles, which isn’t surprising when you design collections like they do! A complete buzz surrounded the entire room as everyone eagerly consumed the SS10 collection.
The collection is truly inspiring and there was not one weak piece to mention. The duo have certainly changed the general stigma attached to ethical fashion which really needs to be commended. Is there anything this fabulous pair cant do …?
The fabrics used are indulgent and luxurious with softly structured organic silks standing out alongside distinct grey blue recycled denim.
The use of color is used in blocks to create a strong sense of identity and add that fun playfull, summer impact in the SS10 collection. The use of muted bright pinks and oranges combined with a variety of oysters to balance with the bold range of greys and blues.
A particular personal favorite was the muted bright pink pieces, especially the organic silk blouse with the softly structured shoulders to add that extra feminine edge.
……One tip for all you fashioncapital fashionistas…. Consider some form of undergarment for this blouse or you may admired for more than just you’re Rani Jones SS10piece!
The signature unique double zip still remains a striking feature and rightly so in my opinion, the pair has cleverly managed to adapt the ordinary unattractive zip and almost turn it into a jewellery type aesthetic on the backs of dresses, jacket fronts and clutch bags.
I have one confession to make, she says with crumbs all over her …. the SS10 collection wasn’t the only thing I was consuming oh no ….
‘The organic Cupcake Company’ was one of the sponsors for the event and let me tell you all, I literally died and joined organic heaven, with the selection of scrumptious cakes and creative garments .
If today’s event is anything to go by organic and ethical trading is definitely the way forward, if only more designers were so caring about our society.
The Rani Jones SS10 collection is truly magnificent and it’s almost hard to believe that this is only the duos second designing season, as their designs are as strong or arguably better than any top designer tht will be showcasing this week. I predict big things for this inspirational pair and eagerly await the unveil of the Autumn/Winter 2010 collection to see what new design ideas they will unleash.
