Socks Appeal
25-09-2009
Why then am I dedicating a whole week of my life to this subject? Well in the last few weeks I have become hot on hosiery.
Hitting the catwalks everywhere, jewelled at Miu Miu and Doo Ri, stripes at McQueen, and patterned at Chanel. Now to be honest, I am not (yet) in a position to spend £300 plus on a pair of socks (gorgeous as they are!) but luckily for us, the high street has provided!
Look at these beauties from Ungaro and keep them in your mind when you're hitting the highstreet.
For me, it all started with Henry Holland. I've already had my little rave about his new collection for Pretty Polly, but I genuinely can't get enough. Black opaque is normally as ambitious as I get but I can't resist this treasure trove of gorgeousness. And all at £10, it's stocking filler money! Pre-order the alphabet lovelies or the graduated tights, a style which features heavily in the House of Holland collection. If you're feeling a bit more risqué, try the mock stockings!
It's all going a bit Britney Spears in the sock department with knee highs popping up all over the place. These are a cheap as chips way of spicing up your wardrobe for the winter, look for some interesting colours that you can wear over black tights when it really is too cold for those few inches of thigh to be on display (I know I'll be needing it in Leeds!) If you want a bit of Miu Miu style in your wardrobe without the huge price tag (and you've got a bit of time on your hands!) jazz up a pair of plain high street knee socks by sewing on buttons and sequins. Mine are taking me longer than I anticipated- photos to come!
Remember those little ankle socks you used to wear to school? Well it may be time to dig them out or better yet buy some new, slightly bigger ones. Topshop have got the best choice on the highstreet, and there's a bargainous offer at the moment, three for £7- so hop to! These cute bow babies and the little frilly chaps are my fave.
So kids, even though autumn is creeping in, you can still wear that mini with pride- and some stylish hosiery!
