You would have to live under a rock to miss the fashion trend of the poncho.  They have taken the world by storm, and Londoners have turned out in droves to grab them in every style, colour, and material available.

American Fashion Student Fiona Tolunay said she was surprised by how many Londoners wear ponchos.  “I bought this one before I saw them on anyone else.  Then, I came here and apparently everyone here wears ponchos…London is more fashion forward than America, especially Texas.”

Many credit Jessica Simpson, however, a Texas born celebrity, for inciting the poncho trend.  Simpson wore a white poncho on her television show Newlyweds.

Tolunay said she likes her poncho because of the colour.  “I think it is unique compared to the thicker crocheted ones.”

With all the flavour of bohemia, ponchos elude mystery and exoticism.  Wear one when you want to feel like a travelling gypsy, as apposed to a corporate slave.

Whether it is crocheted or fur, whether it has feathers or fringe, it seems that there is a poncho appropriate for every outfit and made out of every material.  Wear it with jeans when you want a casual cover-up or pair it with a skirt for a dressier affair.

The look is also works with black pants.

A favourite of both young and old, the poncho is flattering for all body shapes.   

If you haven’t found a poncho that you feel attractive wearing, experiment with the many varieties available.  With options like long, cropped, asymmetrical, and off-the-shoulder, you are bound to find one that suits you.
