George at ASDA return for the Factory Uncovered workshop
Today we welcomed a cohort from George at ASDA to the Factory to teach how an ethical factory in the UK operates and what they should be looking out for when they visit manufacturers. Here are a few comments:
’I have learnt thought processes behind lay planning and how a small amend on a garment can create lots of consequences in fit of a garment’ Claire – Assistant Buyer
’I lovd this workshop, I found it really interesteing and informative. All the speakers seemed knowledgeable and passionate about their roles. I really enjoyed the upfront honesty!’ Bridie – Assistant Merchandiser
’I have learnt a great deal about what actually happens in a factory – costs, fit diagnostics, cost saving, proceedures, issues and how to rectify and machine timings. All presenters very interesting to listen to, I appreciated the personal shared experiences. Really enjoyed it!’ Ellie – Assistant Buyer Menswear Jersey
Caris Summer Play Scheme visit The Factory
We also welcomed one of the youngest cohorts of students to the Factory this week. From the Caris Summer Play scheme a group of 10 year olds took their first steps into the world of garment production. The scheme is a charity that enables homeless families, children and young people to build community networks and aims to improve their health, education and social provision.
Fashion Enter previously donated garments to the charity so it was a delight to meet them and show them the Factory!
Welcome to Jo Price
We are delighted to welcome Senior Lecturer Jo Price to the education team at the Fashion Technology Academy
”˜I am super excited about working with you all in a company that is all about and only about the fashion industry. I have been teaching since 2001, firstly at Lewisham College and then moving to Barking & Dagenham College (BDC) in 2005 and I have been working here for 12 years. A couple of years into my teaching at BDC we had the opportunity of working with fashion Enter on a project themed ’The little black dress’. When made, the dresses were sold in a pop up shop in Barking town centre, it was a fantastic opportunity for both me and the students.
I strive to get the best out of my students and have a positive outlook on life. Whatever job I do, I will put my heart into it.
I have had some industry experience with small companies and working with factories and I also have a small studio space myself where I pattern cut and make my own clothes.
I am ready for a new adventure and the challenges it will offer and I can’t wait to meet everyone.’
