Accessories Trends SS18

22-01-2022

The new year can only suggest one thing in fashion terms – a shiny new wardrobe, full of optimism and sartorial embrace. But what essentially always defines an outfit in its entirety? Accessories, of course. Looking to the Spring/Summer 2018 catwalks, an army of designers offered an array of accessory options that were as versatile as they were exciting. From supersize statement earrings to multi sizable bum bags and the combination of a sock and elegant heel – they were all famously spotted amid the fashion circuit and are now forecast to be our fundamental source of adornment for the new year.

Supersize Earrings

Rely on earrings to do all the hard work for you when wanting to create an unapologetic albeit fashion-forward statement for Spring/Summer 2018. In relation to the accessory in question, more is more: the larger, the more obscure, and you’re on to a style winner.

Chandelier renditions were seen swinging with great aplomb at Burberry, whilst disco-ball styles glimmered at Valentino. To guarantee the perfect Instagram selfie, look to Chanel, where Karl Lagerfeld decorated ears with show-stopping icicles. Beyoncé assured us that the trend can prevail even without having our ears pierced, as she has been seen spotted parading clip-on, collarbone-grazing, diamanté drop earrings from Alessandra Rich’s collection.

Tied at the Hip

A trend that we all love to joke about that makes an appearance on the catwalks every few years, the bum bag – fanny pack, belt bag, whatever you prefer to call it – is the accessory to seriously adopt for 2018.

Saint Laurent showcased minuscule additions, Marc Jacobs presented monstrously mammoth versions and Miu Miu illustrated matelassé renditions. Catwalk queen Kendall Jenner unashamedly showed off her hip-hugging preferences, vintage Chanel or old-school Louis Vuitton transpire as her bum bag must-haves. Gucci applied the accessory in question to a dichotomy of looks, from adorning princess-worthy gowns to desirable dapper tailoring. The trend continued to additionally latch on at the waists of House of Holland, Fenty x Puma, Valentino and beyond.

Socks with Heels

Introducing the new ‘it’ fashion coupling – a sock styled with an elegant heel – a look that was abundantly apparent amid the Spring/Summer 2018 catwalks. A vision that some view as a fashion faux pas has reinvented itself into a look of undeniable cool.

Such a statement can’t be wrong, with an amalgam of designers accessorising their collections with the alluring sock and stiletto combination, including those from Erdem, Preen, Fendi and Prada. Tartan heels were slouched-down with a bonny argyle sock at Burberry, whilst a burst of the fluorescent yellow sock was impossible to ignore at Miu Miu. Designer’s seemed to additionally channel the trend through means of various colouring juxtapositions: Marc Jacobs paired black ankle socks with golden sandals, while Missoni opted for a contrasting white on orange look.
