Style File

February 11, 2025 - February 11, 2025

This is all about organisation! When I was a buyer for M&S every garment had a Style File set up and I have added to the concept putting in additional data.

The form is self explanatory. Its an overview of the garment itself, where the fabric is from, the width, the price and all references for the client (including PO – Purchase order) and delivery date.style file

The section at the bottom of the form is important. This is part of the sealing process again and its important that you keep updating your records so you know exactly what the client wants and update all the patterns too. Fitting sessions should be no more than two sessions for a red seal (basic body block correct) then a further fit for a green seal (sample ready for bulk production).

It is also easy to ’lose’ a pattern so have worthwhile pattern references so you know straight away. When a client calls you and takes the reference number such as FCD102/SS this would notify that its a FashionCapital pattern, D is for Dress, 102 would be the style reference and SS would denote a Spring Summer style. As your label grows you wont have time to research and review copious amounts of patterns and blocks. You need effective use of your time – time is money!
